Metro Boomin may be partly responsible for igniting what’s been dubbed the greatest rap battle ever, but the multi-platinum producer isn’t only on war mode.
Taking time out from trolling Drake with his “BBL Drizzy” beat contest, Metro gave Project Pat his flowers on Wednesday (May 15) by claiming he belongs in the greatest rappers of all time conversation.

Metro Boomin has long been outspoken about his love for Three 6 Mafia and Memphis rap as a whole.
In a 2018 interview with GQ, he said: “When I came up, one of my favorite groups and producers was Three 6 Mafia. DJ Paul and Juicy J were heavy on samples. I don’t sample shit too much — a lot of my stuff is original from scratch. They sampled a lot of horror-movie music.
“Back then their beats were some of the most advanced. It had the bass. It was dark, the drum lines would switch up. Stuff like that just always inspired me. I guess that’s why a lot of the music I make, it sounds dark. You would think that’s the type of person I am, but it’s not. You would think I’m mad or depressed all the time, but that’s not the case at all.”

The 30-year-old also worked with Project Pat on his “Knife Talk” collaboration with Drake and 21 Savage, from 2021’s Certified Lover Boy.
In other Metro news, he recently sweetened his “BBL Drizzy” contest by offering the winner a $10,000 cash prize along with a free beat.
The St. Louis native launched contest earlier this month by uploading an instrumental on SoundCloud featuring a sped-up sample of a woman singing the phrase, “BBL Drizzy” — a nod to the plastic surgery allegations against the 6 God.
It has since caught fire, appearing in countless viral videos and remixes while catching the attention Elon Musk and Dr. Miami.

The troll-worthy track came in response to Drake jabbing Metro throughout his feud with Kendrick Lamar, notably on the diss songs “Push Ups” and “Family Matters.”
“Metro, shut your ho ass up and make some drums, n-gga,” he rapped on the former, while adding on the latter: “Pluto shit make me sick to my stomach, we ain’t never really been through it/ Leland Wayne, he a fuckin’ lame, so I know he had to be an influence.”

The contest was put together in response to Drake’s diss against Kendrick Lamar on “Family Matters,” on which the 6 God raps: “I mean it’s true a n-gga slimed me for my AP/ Just like how Metro n-gga slimed him for his main squeeze/ Out here beggin’ for attention, n-gga, say please.”
