Meek Mill has started a war of words with DJ Drama, taking aim at the Hip Hop staple for some offhanded comments he made.

It all started earlier this month, when DJ Drama appeared as a guest on The Jay Hill Podcast. During the interview, he was asked about who he thought was the JAY-Z of today’s generation.

“I feel like Meek Mill is the JAY-Z of our culture,” Hill remarked.

Drama, however, didn’t agree. “I think it’s Drake — one thousand percent,” he calmly remarked. “Drake came out in ’08. It’s 2023. He changed the sound of Hip Hop. He’s literally ran every summer.”

These comments didn’t sit well with the Dreams and Nightmares rapper, who took to Twitter on Monday (May 29) to slam the Atlanta-based DJ in a series of tweets.

“Dj drama a goofy over these hoes lol he won’t speak good on me I tore him up in the a,” Meek Mill began. “I asked drama why he always speaking down on me with a few other words too told him he’s a goofy… I also hit him when he tried to compare dreams and nightmares to I wanna rock AND DOWNPLAY ME … DONT LET THESE INDUSTRY LAMES USE YOU THEY DONT REALLY EVEN LIKE YOU SMH LOL.”

Meek also made clear that he’s the “Meek of his generation” and didn’t appreciate the comparisons to Hov.

“And I’m the meek of this generation … nothing can’t be hov he laid all this shit out for us you gotta make your own movie outchea,” he tweeted. “that’s that n-ggaitis who the new hov …. I respect that highly can’t be re-done … drama tryna divide and conquer a feat lol drama basically started/powered that meek and drake beef … so to see him compare us again and cut youngin off to where he can’t barely speak so much gat in his mouth lol.”

Though DJ Drama and Meek Mill were label mates on MMG once upon a time, they’ve had a relationship that was nothing if not strained for many years, with Drama appearing to play the role of unwitting mediator when Meek appeared to fly off the handle.

Back in 2014, when Meek was beefing with fellow labelmate Wale, DJ Drama seemed to think the back-and-forth on Twitter was nothing if not childish. “Yeah, I mean, you know, I would tell those guys to keep it off Twitter,” he said. “Families quarrel all the time. But, you know, those guys, they’re both friends of mine. I would just say, ‘Hey, let’s just go box it out.’”

Then, when Meek Mill and Drake were beefing back in 2016 after the former mistakenly believed that the 6 God was dissing him on wax, it was Drama who, once again, had to diffuse the situation.

“I said, ‘Bro, he’s not dissing you,’” Drama said he told Meek, “… ‘Those weren’t technically his bars.’ Then everything from there turned.”

Despite their current strained situation, it’s entirely possible that DJ Drama and Meek Mill can squash their beef in the near future.

After all, last November, Meek Mill squashed the beef with former label head Rick Ross when they reunited onstage in Philadelphia, putting an end to rumors of a rift between the Maybach Music Group duo.

Meek celebrated the 10th anniversary of his debut album Dreams & Nightmares with a star-studded homecoming concert at the Wells Fargo Center on November 26.

During the sold-out performance, Meek surprised the crowd by bringing out Ross as a special guest. Footage posted on Rozay’s Instagram Stories captured the pair performing their 2011 collaboration “Ima Boss” in what was their first time sharing the stage in years.
