Meek Mill’s Legal Team Asks PA Supreme Court To Remove Judge Genece Brinkley From Case

A mere three days after Judge Genece Brinkley denied Meek Mill a new trial, his legal team has filed legal docs asking the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to remove Brinkley from the case.

In a statement to HipHopDX, Meek’s legal team says Brinkley “acted like a prosecutor, not a judge” during her cross-examination of Bradley Bridge, a witness on Meek’s case during last Monday’s (June 18) hearing.

Meek’s legal team believes Brinkley “lacks impartiality, especially since she laughed at Bridge’s testimony and criticized how the Philadelphia District Attorney’s office was handling Meek’s matter.”

Meek was released from Chester State Prison in April after serving roughly six months for probation violations. Brinkley initially sentenced the “Stay Woke” rapper to two to four years but following months of trying, he was finally able to get out on bail.

Meek’s attorneys filled a PCRA (Post-Conviction Relief Act) earlier this year after Meek’s original arresting officer, Reginald Graham, was named on a list of allegedly corrupt cops provided by the Philadelphia District Attorney’s office.

The Philly D.A. has stated Meek deserves a new trial. Meek will remain out of prison during the appeals process.

Meek Mil was denied a new trial by Judge Genece Brinkley on Monday (June 25).

According to CBS Local Philadelphia, his PCRA (Post-Conviction Relief Act) petition was rejected in a 64-page order, which explained Meek and his legal team “failed to meet his burden of proof” when trying to show Meek’s original arresting officer had credibility issues.l

“We are not at all surprised by Judge Brinkley‘s decision today,” Joe Tacopina, Meek’s attorney, said in a statement sent to HipHopDX. “Despite the agreement of the District Attorney’s office on the need for a new trial, and the granting of new trials to other identically situated defendants, Judge Brinkley made clear during the hearing on June 18th that she had already decided the matter.

“We continue to believe that this miscarriage of justice will be corrected upon further review, and that the public’s confidence in the impartiality of the judicial system in Pennsylvania will be restored.”

Meek was seeking a new trial after Officer Reginald Graham, who arrested the “Stay Woke” rapper on weapons and drugs charges in 2007, appeared on a list of alleged corrupt Philly cops.

While the Philadelphia district attorney’s office supported the motion to give Meek a new trial, Brinkley evidently felt it was unwarranted.

Brinkley sentenced Meek to two to four years in prison for probation violations and he was released in April after serving roughly six months. [apple_news_ad type=”any”]

For now, Meek will remain out of prison for the entire appeals process.

    1. you violated probation twice for gun and drug charges. now hes the face of bad justice system? gtfoh.

      1. Yes because keeping someone on probation for 11 years for a simple drug possession and having a loaded weapon — which is a constitutional right anyway is ridiculous. And throwing him in prison after being arrested (and not charged) for riding a dirt-bike is not what probationary laws are intended for. He’s got four years while some kid who assaulted and rapped multiple women while at college just got 3 years. The justice system continues to be broken. We can’t expect people to move forward if we keep having them pay the same debt over and over Mr. President.

        1. He didn’t have to get 11 years probation. He could have served his sentence and been done. He never wanted to go to prison so he kept accepting probation.

        2. having an illegal loaded weapon is not a constitutional right. if it was legal then yes, but it wasn’t.

      2. If the moron could go 1 year without violating his probation multiple timez it would have been over and done with years ago

    2. She really want to put Meek back in jail and the SAD thing is shes BLACK. Not being racist, but you would expect this from a white judge.

      1. 1. You are racist. 2. Expecting her to be on his side just because she is black regardless that meek might be guilty would be injustice. Isnt that what you are against??

    3. I’m on a hip hop site readIng comments defending the justice system lol ok. Hip hop is officially infiltrated by the others

      1. how about dont break the law over and over… and if you do dont fucking cry about it when you know you’re guilty…

        1. You obviously missed the part about the DA stating he should get a new trial because the cop was corrupt. But keep it up FBOY

      2. Its okay to defend something if it actually serves right and justice. Being against something no matter if its right or wrong is ignorant. You saying Hip Hop is ignorant then?? gtfoh n*gga

        1. How about understanding the details before you spout off at the lips. I’m stating that it is wack as hell that we are on a HH site and I’m reading comments defending a judge with an obvious bias and stating that someone should be in prison when his original conviction is in question. Secondly, Meek’s case is not an anomaly and HH has always offered voice to the voiceless ie F the Police, 911 is a Joke etc etc. So yes HH is more that rap no matter how many of you dorks try to water it down.

    4. This privileged celebrity meek mill got dumb ass people saying he should be free after violating parole twice. Help these young black teenagers getting killed and rail roaded by the justice system

    5. He never had a chance: NO judge would rule in Meek’s favor because while the cop who testified against him MIGHT be dirty, the cops who accused Meek’s cop of being dirty have been CONVICTED of being dirty. And it’s a safe bet that someone in the district attorney’s office has managed to figure that out.
The accusations against Meek’s cop need to be turned into solid proof, criminal charges, and a conviction first. And Meek’s next trip to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court will also come up empty if Judge Brinkley is not found to have done anything ethically or technically incorrect.
But there is good news in the ruling — for the DA’s office, who get to score publicity points with the black community by pretending to be on Meek’s side, and for the bank accounts of Meek’s lawyers!

    6. weak meekness CRY BABY Still whinin’?! Your BF Bubba missin’ your soft azz back in tha joint, hurry back PUNK! NO ONE missed you or that THIRD STRING whiny cRap of yours! Even Your PIMP, Officer Ricky, the FAKE rickross couldn’t help your sorry azz! #DumbAssAlSharptonWannaBee
