Master P Seeks To “Change The Game” With Coed Basketball League

Master P is no stranger to the court, having played both college and pro basketball. And with his latest venture, the Hip Hop entrepreneur is looking to literally change the game.

P was recently named president of the Global Mixed Gender Basketball League, and is also owner of the New Orleans Gators, a team in the league.

While speaking with NOLA.com, the No Limit Records founder revealed why it was important for him to work with a league that isn’t for just one gender.

“There are some great female basketball players on a professional level that are just as good as men,” Master P said. “But we never see that…[It will] change the game when you see that they really have some women who can compete with men. That’s what we’re going to get out of this league.”

Later in his interview, Master P revealed that it was a woman, his cousin Adelene, who taught him how to hoop.

“I learned how to play basketball from a female,” he said. “My cousin Adelene Rome taught me how to play basketball. She was good at it. She played with the boys; she was tough.”

In addition to the New Orleans Gators, other teams in the Global Mixed Gender Basketball League include the Washington, D.C. Fusion and the Atlanta Heirs. The Atlanta Heirs are owned by singer and wife to rapper T.I., Tameka “Tiny” Harris.

Tiny uploaded a post to Instagram yesterday (August 16) congratulating Master P on his move to president of the league, and also offered up a little trash talk.

“I want to welcome @masterp to the Global Mixed Gender Professional Basketball League @gmgbasketball as the new president,” Tiny wrote. “I look forward to breaking barriers with you and welcome you with open arms. Let’s get it !! World we have so much in store for you with this new co-ed basketball league. Stay tuned… Oh and P the #atlantaheirs gone kick #theneworleansgators A$$.”

    1. I guess he’s a co-owner so he can do what he wants– but the whole T-shirt-and-jeans-with-a-business-jacket look has always looked a little silly to me.

Hope for the best for the players involved.

    2. Pleaasse, the best WNBA player isn’t better than the worst NBA player, this equality shi t is getting outta hand, next thing you know they’ll be allowing trannys in the league FOH

    3. P is a hustler but he’s always doing something that’s a step below another rapper. In this case you have the Ice Cube Big 3 league. After straight out of Compton came out, he was talking about doing a No Linit joint. Years ago he would put out clothing after the success of Rocawear and Sean John. I get it, he’s one of those “why can’t I” guys but at least try to be just as major if not better.

      1. Or just first period. I’ve always rocked with P since early on but you’re right about that. He’s always bit other people’s ideas and then did a bootleg version. Hell, he benefited off 2Pac’s death more than anybody including Suge. The No Limit roster turned into a bunch of graduates from the 2Pac acting school. They became like a drug to ease people off Pac because we couldn’t have the real one no more.
