After lots of changes, Mary J Blige will release her new album, The Breakthrough in December.
“We’re getting ‘The Breakthrough’ to the point where it’s unbreakable and it’s bulletproof. It’s almost there but we want it to be perfect,” she said after claiming her new album would be released next February.
Those plans were terminated when Mary and others decided The Breakthrough should be released as quickly as possible.
The album, which is said to have many songs dealing with “the upside of life,” will be a look into Mary’s personal drama. The Breakthrough is about getting to or going to a place where we fear the most,” she said.
Vidal Davis says this is Mary working with pure emotion.
“One song she couldn’t take it. The whole song, the whole session, she just cried the whole time. It was incredible how it came out. Mary still has the work ethic of a new artist. I’ve seen Mary cut two songs in one day. At this point in the game, normally artists who’ve been out for a while don’t have that drive,” he said.
Mary also added that it is about being yourself as well.
“Going to a place where people are gonna talk about us. As a human being, no matter how cool you are, you still are goofy sometimes, you still are corny sometimes and don’t care what people say about it. People are always gonna have something to say. Just be who you are,” she advises.
Going with the honesty policy, she claims she will not do what record executives ask, but that she will follow her heart. “The people are not stupid. They know when I’m for real and they know when I’m being pushed for something else,” she explained.
Early on, it was said that Mary had been working with various producers including Swizz Beatz, Cool & Dre, Dr. Dre, Kanye West, Rodney Jerkins and The Neptunes.
Mary will also shine a light on women who aren’t treated right.
“I’ve always done love songs but my biggest records were me being miserable. And there’s a lot of women who have grown up with me and a lot who have not grown and are still stuck in misery. The ones still stuck in misery, I want to let them understand everything is work and let’s go work for it. In order to get the right man, we gotta become the right woman to ourselves. That’s what this record is: It’s a blossoming flower to all the women that suffer. You deserve a man who’s gonna treat you right and you need to start looking for that,” she said.
Mary’s album is slated for a December 20 release, and her first single “Reminisce” should hit the music video networks soon. Raphael Saadiq, Will I Am of the Black Eyed Peas and Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis will also be behind the boards on this project.
