Madonna was once romantically linked to the late, great Tupac Shakur. While he was in prison, the Hip Hop icon penned a letter to the pop matriarch and it’s finally going up for auction. While Madge tried to block the sale, TMZ reports her efforts were futile.
According to new legal documents, the platinum-selling singer just lost her appeal to halt the sale.
A New York State Appeals Court ruled Madonna can’t pursue claims against her former friend and art consultant Darlene Lutz or Gotta Have Rock and Roll, the online auction house Lutz consigned the items to last year.
A judge threw out Madonna’s lawsuit last year after it was revealed she’d signed a release form in 2004. On Tuesday (June 4), the appellate court upheld the judge’s ruling in a 5-0 decision, explaining Madonna’s claims are blocked by the “very broad” release.
The letter in question, which was written in 1995, served as ‘Pac’s breakup letter to the ’80s superstar. He ended their sexual relationship essentially because of her skin color and concerns over what dating a white woman would do to his “image.”

Without a doubt. Not just legends, but EVERYBODY. If we’re talking about human imperfection as a whole that is a very easy and over simplification of an argument to make. In discussing this one detail about Tupac’s relationship with Madonna, there are obviously more layers specific to him as a person to peel back. We’re all gonna die at some point either by our doing or someone else’s, that’s written in the stars already. The actual point of the article, and the content within the letter showcased Tupac’s insecurity as an independent black male which made him very easy to be taken advantage of. His music exuded confidence/awareness but his actions in many cases showed otherwise. That’s what this letter paints a picture of.

It’s literal proof that PAC was not only a racist, he cared more about his image than someone he was in a relationship with.
It doesn’t prove he was racist. It proves even as loved as he was he was worried about societal pressure that stems from interracial dating. He wrote songs about valuing black women and black culture and he was worried that publicly dating a very popular white woman may undercut the sincerity of those messages. So it seems less about his image and more about the potency of his message remaining in tact.
