Logic Didn’t Retire — It Seems He’s Just Reinvented Himself As Doc D With ‘Planetory Destruction’ Album

Whether Logic is trying to follow in the footsteps of the late, great MF DOOM with a new supervillain alter ego, simply reinventing himself or innocently promoting his latest BobbyBoy Records artist, one thing’s certain — he definitely didn’t retire from rap.

On Friday (January 22), the Def Jam Recordings artist shared an Instagram post announcing a new project by Doc D (or Doctor Destruction), writing, “I’m premiering @docdmusic debut album #PlanetoryDestruction TONIGHT on my @twitch @ 8pm EST.”

Complete with the DOOM-style skits and audio bytes from Pulp Fiction, the 17-track album boasts features from Ghostface Killah, Del The Funky Homosapien, Buddy, TDE’s Punch, Tony Tone, LIKE and J Mars, among others. The project adheres to a strict ’90s boom bap vibe, which Logic noted in a recent Twitter post.

“I met this cat @docdmusic 3 years ago in Chicago,” he claimed on January 14. “Now he claims to be from the year 2097 so he must have borrowed doc brown’s Delorean lol. However on that day he handed me a flash drive with music like many before him.

“But this was special, and so true to the roots of hip hop I had him keep sending more over the years. And once I’d heard enough I decided to sign him. Now I don’t know how he convinced me to executive produce his entire album but I’m glad I did.”

Logic announced he was retiring from rap in July 2020 but not before he delivered his final album No Pressure. He explained in an April 2020 Instagram post he planned to focus on his family and new role as a father. The announcement arrived a few months after he reemerged on social media to update fans on his life.

“Breaking my social media rule for a second to tell you guys i love you so much and just been in such a creative zone working on everything to come,” he wrote on Reddit at the time. “you know me, im five projects and two movies ahead at all times lol/i hope youre all being safe during this pandemic. know that my heart is with you.

Logic Parlays Rap Retirement Into 7-Figure Twitch Deal

“i love you all and am excited for no pressure. bars on bars on bars. But this next one is back to the roots for sure and i cant wait for you to hear it when the time is right. little bobby boy is so cute and the most adorable little man in da worlds! lol seriously tho, keep supporting and know im always here to be that voice. I LOVE YOU ALL FOREVER.”

Logic’s career officially began in 2010 with the release of his first mixtape Young, Broke & Infamous. He eventually signed with Def Jam, staying with the label since dropping his debut album Under Pressure in 2014. Following his retirement announcement, he signed a seven-figure deal with Twitch.

Whoever Doc D is, many of Logic’s fans are absolutely convinced it’s him. Check out some of the reactions below and the album above.

      1. Same skill as J.Cole and also half-Black but he doesn’t have the hair or skin pigment that you love your rappers to have to be cool.

    1. I want to stream like Dr Disrespect so I will also now release an album under an alias of a similar name. I respect the lack of shame though.

    2. I wonder when will a popular rapper really retire throwing away the money and the fame. Maybe Mos Def did it, but I’m not sure. Anyway Mos Def is on a higher level than all these Logic and Jay-Z type of money hungry motherfuckers.

        1. You must be one of those “Logic is real rap bro” types, my favorite rappers are Nas and Prodigy this guy is a weak derivative lyrical nothing

    3. Don’t forget that there were also Doc Doom (RIP) from Black Knights/Wu-Tang and Dr Dooom, an alter ego of Kool Keith. MF DOOM wasn’t the only one to take inspiration from Doom character.

    4. This dude is so unbelievably corny. Such a pathetic attempt to reel in the hipsters and DOOM fans who are now void of these types of concepts.

    5. Logic the gig is up i know mf doom is gone but trying to recreate his legacy is a fail like jay electronica say quit being someone else get ur dignity off the shelf

    6. It’s Logical to assume Doc D is Logic. However,
does Doc D utilize enough of his Frontal Lobe to assume the role?
