Logic has teamed up with longtime friend and collaborator C Dot Castro to form a brand new rap group called halfBREED — but it looks like fans are divided over the announcement.

What began as what some fans believed to be an April Fools joke, appears to be coming to fruition. On Saturday (April 8) the Maryland MC took to Instagram where he shared the cover art for the upcoming project, alongside a potential release date for the group’s debut EP.

Rumors of a pending project first surfaced on Twitter last month, after the owner of Fitts Records shared a drop date of April 1, 2023 alongside a short tracklisting. However, when the EP wasn’t released, followers chopped it up to being a joke. “Castro said on livestream twice it was dropping this day, if it’s an April fools joke I sincerely apologize lol,” Bryce Fitts said of his source.

“Oh shit… I forgot what day its gonna be [laughing emoji],” wrote another user insinuating they almost had him.

Meanwhile, the recent announcement has been met with mixed reviews as some feel the rapper’s constant commentary around being mixed race is becoming a bit too much.

“Bro logic did not go from song to song reminding us he black and white, to now finally making a rap group called half breed. [laughing emoji] this n-gga is mad consistent and I hate it [crying emoji],” responded one user, chiming in on the action.

“Of all the names you coulda……Lmfaooooo nah this is so unserious,” another commenter wrote. “Anything to tell us your half white and half Black,” noted one more follower.

On the flip side, many fans couldn’t contain their excitement. “Oh hell yeah [fire emoji],” said one commenter. While another shared they’ve “been waiting for this.”

“Back & forth is one of the best songs to come out of all the songs you made back then. It’s so raw and defines making raps with your friends. Excited for this tape for sure,” another shared in the thread.

Needless to say, the project will likely ruffle feathers as some in Hip Hop have been adamant that the “Homicide” lyricist has no business in the industry.

Last month, Joe Budden took aim at Logic during an episode of The Joe Budden Podcast, where he pleaded with him to “never step near a recording device again” following his divisive singing cover of Ice Cube’s “It Was a Good Day.”

Budden’s comments followed various jabs over the years, including calling Logic “one of the worst rappers to ever grace a microphone.”

Shortly after, Logic — who previously revealed that the constant attacks contributed to his battle with depression — responded to the shade in a video for a new track, which could appear on his and Castro’s new EP. “Logic is halfbreed,” he wrote alongside the visual shared via Twitter.
