Lizzo Admits She Grew Up Thinking She Wasn’t ‘Desirable’ Due To Her Size

Lizzo has come a long way since her days when sleeping in her car was sometimes her only option. But according to a recent interview with Elle UK, she never imagined being a pop star was even possible due to her size. While she recognized there were “bigger” women in the industry such as Missy Elliott and Queen Latifah, she called them “the exception to the rule.”

She continued, “I think it was more of, like, an insecurity. Nearly every star I saw on stage was thinner and light-skinned. And they didn’t look like me. […] I always felt like, even if the song is great, people wouldn’t want to hear it coming from me. So I thought, if I have other people on stage, too, that will take the focus off me a little bit.

“I know people want to look like me now. But I’m talking about what it was like in my formative years. I wasn’t really set up to believe that I was desirable. For me, being a pop star – part of it is people either want to be you or be with you. And I didn’t feel like I had any of those qualities.”

It was tough to get to that point, though. But Lizzo was ultimately able to manifest confidence. As she explained, “In doing the fake it till you make it method, I began attracting a lot of people who thought I was beautiful.” — which included her best friend.

“She’s always been like, ‘You look good, you look beautiful.’ In the past, a lot of people were my friend because they knew that having me around would make them feel better about themselves. But she genuinely thought I was beautiful and helped me believe it and verbalize it out loud.”

Lizzo Addresses ‘Ugly Dudes With No Bitches’ Who Use Her Name As An Insult

Lizzo has become a huge advocate of the body positivity movement but catches a lot of flak in the process. Last month, the 34-year-old addressed men who use her stage name as an insult to other women.

“Dudes be ugly w no bitches talking bout ‘oK LiZzO’ as an insult in girls comments,” she wrote on Twitter at the time. “I’m beautiful rich & get immaculate dick… ISSA COMPLIMENT. If u can’t make it past the cheeks, just say that.”

    1. white society continues to push unhealthiness in the black community. And they always use big black women to push the narrative. And what a lot of black women fail to realize, sexual access is not the same as marriage. Lizzo bragging about getting d*ck, but big bishes get smashed all the time. lol. But marriage is a commitment and an investment.. and veryyy few men are investing in those women. And that’s why these women end up becoming “rich auntie”, and taking girl trips and having to work so hard because no one wants to invest in their foolishness. Funny how these women can manifest everything but a husband. lol.

      1. How is “white society” pushing unhealthiness on the black community? Ignorant way to start a comment that for the most part I agree with.

      2. She was interviewed recently. She is not interested in marriage. No one is pushing anything on the “Black” community. Some people always look for an excuse for their lack of success. Lizzo isn’t. She is herself, unapologetically. And she is healthy. She may not be what you consider to be an ideal size, but she’s working with what God gave her. Mull over that while she counts her coins.

        1. How did both of y’all miss the bigger narrative dude was saying? All that game went smack across y’all heads. But to be fair y’all both have a point about her success, but let’s be real. Ain’t no woman on earth over 30 that doesn’t want a husband. The music industry labels want to pollute the listeners into believing that … Nevermind y’all right lol keep drilling y’all ears into evilness instead of drilling your eyes into some books

    2. Dudes with standards that don’t who like fat bitches be like “Whatever, Lizzo.” But I be like, ” F*** You, cuz I still get to eat immaculate potato chips”

    3. It’s not just her size that is a turn off….it’s the fact that she’s sloppy, arrogant, and self centered. Since she mentioned Missy, you don’t see her acting like that, neither did Jill Scott or Marsha Ambrosia because they have class, natural beauty and personality. That’s something that you just can’t buy, teach or fake.

    4. They’re desirable in the hood only for two reasons, for having mad food stamps and being the rebound girl after prison.

    5. Get lipo and change your stank ass attitude and maybe people would actually find you more desirable.

      1. Buy lavish mansions! (Thats all blm does, and push the poor folks to burn their pen decaying cities making them all even worse off)

    6. That’s wonderful keep spreading this unhealthy message that being obese is somehow a good thing! All this whale ever talks about is her weight SMFH

    7. If she wasn’t corporately sponsored them she still wouldn’t be considered attractive at all to people. Correction, gravitational pull does still count technically.

    8. Lol, I don’t even think a NASA spaceship could make it past those cheeks safely. That’s a black hole that even Galactus would be weary of.

    9. 400 pound gorilla women aren’t desirable to most men. but there’s plenty of chubby chasers out there as i’m sure she now knows. girls like her with a pretty face usually can find a man pretty easy from what I see. it’s the fat dudes that can’t get laid – fat girls do okay for themselves. it’s the health problems that hit hard and fast once they hit 35-40 that the 400 pound women need to worry about

    10. Morbidly obese women undesirable? Probably, but the toxic personality is an absolute deal breaker. She wouldn’t get nearly as much hate if she just shut the fuck up once in awhile.
