Although coveted Detroit beatsmith J Dilla lost his life in 2006, he’s left behind a treasure trove of timeless musical compositions. His latest posthumous release comes in the form of the beat tape called Motor City, which boasts 19 tracks plus some notable features from Hip Hop pioneers like Q-Tip and Busta Rhymes, who both pop up on an exclusive J. Rocc remix, the “J-Rocc Blend #2.”
The album is packaged in a limited-edition mailing envelope and framed as a “letter” to Jay Dee from his mother, Ma Dukes. It’s complete with a handwritten message to him that is included in the insert.
Motor City follows the release of Dilla’s full-length album, The Diary, and the compilation, Jay Dee’s Ma Dukes Collection. Ma Dukes has been instrumental in arranging all of his posthumous releases through the J Dilla Foundation, which aims to enrich the community by enhancing local music programs and awarding students with scholarships, while keeping Dilla’s name alive.

So at this point HipHopDX is complicit in fraud…
How so?
There is no such thing as the J Dilla Foundation and when you look at the 501 c3 status tool via IRS’s website you cannot pull up the J Dilla Foundation nor a non profit assigned to the EIN 27-1536220
The federal EIN is required for any business profit or non-profit to exist in this country.
It follows a similar amount of numbers to a Social Security number and is required in reporting taxes, verifying status, etc.
DX if you just copy / pasta the press release I could understand how such a mistake could happen but, outside of that, you guys have to be careful about running stories without researching and making sure the facts are right.
I have copied and screen capped this comment in case DX moderates this in an attempt to censor my calling them and the so-called J Dilla Foundation out.
What a way to destroy the man’s legacy.
Seriously what a way to destroy it, whom ever is in control of that situation keeps making the WRONG moves.
No one cares what you are talking about. Just so you know!! Stay Blessed!!
You cared because… you replied, all you have to do is legitimize the foundation and to stop bastardizing the mans work. Forever blessed because I live in the harsh realm of honesty amongst so many crooks in this business like you. I sincerely hope the lord has mercy on your soul… or establishes one for you as it’s quite obvious that there is a lack there of. Smooches 🙂
Dilla Dawg got them beats. Rest in paradise.
