Lil Yachty has revisited the controversy over his contribution to City Girls‘ hit “Act Up” on his new single “A Cold Sunday.”
The track, which is Yachty’s first release of 2024 and features a jazz-inspired instrumental, sees him rap: “She a City Girl, I’m the real reason that she ‘Act Up.'”

Yachty previously claimed to have written all of “Act Up” apart from JT‘s final verse, and later revealed the triple platinum hit made him a lot of money.
“That was an eight-figure check, no cap, and it’s still coming!” the Atlanta native said on Instagram Live, before correcting himself: “Seven, I’m sorry. Seven.”
He also detailed how he came to write “Act Up” in a 2019 interview with The FADER, saying: “One day I was in the studio with my best friend Earl and he played the beat and said, ‘Write something for City Girls,’ and I was like, ‘Okay.’ And I just did it.”
He continued: “[People] said, ‘He might have said one thing in the studio and they credit him.’ I wrote the whole song, except JT’s last verse.

“I know them personally, and I know what women like to hear. What’s some, like, raunchy shit? I just started saying it, and before I went in the booth I said, ‘No homo, y’all’ because all my boys was in the room.
“I always wanted to write for somebody, and when I did, and it blew up, it felt so good.”
City Girls were later asked about Lil Yachty’s contribution to the 2018 hit, but instead of going into detail on the collaboration, Yung Miami and JT refused to answer the question.
“Next,” Miami answered while JT let off a small laugh.

The song went on to reach number 26 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was later prominently sampled on “Hot Girl Summer” by Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj before their much-publicized falling out.
Yachty also featured in the video for “Act Up” in which he plays a news anchor.
