Lil Wayne has been requested in the Verzuz ring for years now, but he believes if he ever does do the show, there’s only one person he’s willing to go up against.

Talking to Rolling Stone in an interview published on Friday (June 9), Weezy revealed that he’d been entertaining the idea of going up against… himself.

“I was interested in Mixtape Weezy going against Lil Wayne,” he said, noticeably using the past tense by saying “was interested.” “That would have been crazy… What other artists you think? There ain’t no other artist that can stand on the stage next to me, bro. I’m sorry.”

Wayne’s comments echo sentiments Birdman once shared when asked about the topic of a Lil Wayne Verzuz in 2021.

“Himself, Wayne versus Tunechi,” the Cash Money mogul said on the Big Facts podcast. “He got too much shit going on, he don’t need to touch that. Come on, brother, this is Tunechi. This n-gga had 100 singles in one year. He passed Elvis Presley in one year. 100 songs on Billboard, so I don’t think an individual could top that. The work Wayne put into it, I wouldn’t even play with that shit.”

Social media has gotten into heated debates over the idea of a Lil Wayne and 50 Cent Verzuz in recent months — but Swizz Beatz has since explained why he wouldn’t entertain the idea.

“Me personally, I wouldn’t even do 50 vs. Wayne — they two different dynamics and two different artists,” Swizz told Baller Alert.

“I would do a different Verzuz for both of them, but we’ll see as we have a lot of things lined up for Verzuz, and hopefully, they are involved. While I can’t give up who I would choose to go against them, just wait and see.”

Wiz Khalifa would also like to get in the ring with Lil Wayne, though his reasons were based more on the performance than the competition aspect.

“I think that would be fun, yeah. Because Wayne is a really dope performer,” the Taylor Gang CEO said in a December interview. “Me and him going back and forth performing bangers? That shit’d be hard! And we’d both smoke hella weed. I think that would be more of a concert than a Verzuz.”

Weezy previously spoke about a Verzuz on an episode of Marcellus Wiley’s More to It podcast in 2022, but it wasn’t for himself as a solo act. When asked who he thinks would make a worthy opponent for Young Money or Cash Money in the ring, he replied: “I would say the best competition, I would have to go with Roc-A-Fella. JAY-Z the homie.”

Up next for Verzuz is the long awaited battle of the hits between Diddy and Jermaine Dupri. The event goes down September 8 at New York City’s Madison Square Garden.
