Lil Wayne may be a 25-year rap veteran who is now in his 40s, but he has no plans to hang up his mic.

As his classic mixtape Dedication 2 turned 18 on Wednesday (May 22), the Young Money boss celebrated the anniversary by looking ahead to the next chapter of his decorated career.

Dedication 2 has long been rumored to be released on streaming services though this has yet to happen.

Last year, DJ Drama — who hosted the mixtape under his Gangsta Grillz banner — said it would hit platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music sometime in 2023.

According to Drama, Dedication 2‘s bevy of samples and borrowed music has made it difficult to get the project cleared, but he promised it would be available on major platforms soon.

“It wasn’t original music, so it couldn’t go on streaming platforms, and I just feel like today, in 2023, if we going to do it, let’s do it, and it might take a little bit of time and be done,” the DJ said on the Rap Radar Podcast.

“We are dropping Dedication 2 on streaming platforms this year, and it’s gonna have some new music along with it. That’s pretty exciting.”

With his talk of wanting to make more history, Lil Wayne will no doubt fuel excitement for Tha Carter VI which he has been teasing for a while.

The New Orleans native teased the album during a Young Money reunion performance in August 2022 at Drake’s October World Weekend festival in Toronto.

Since then, he’s released a handful of potential singles including the DMX-sampling, Swizz Beatz-produced “Kant Nobody” and “Kat Food,” which also flips a classic record from Missy Elliott.

Wayne is also set for a reunion with the Hot Boys as Juvenile recently revealed that the group are currently working on a new album.

“Hot Boys is back together, man,” he said on Instagram Live. “Turk gonna be with me tonight, I’m gonna be with B.G. next week. Me, Wayne, Turk and B.G., all of us gonna be on stage in New Orleans with Mannie Fresh and Birdman. And we already started working on the Hot Boys album.”
