Lil Wayne still feels his best verse is yet to come, but he does have a pick for his best one so far.
Appearing on Maverick Carter’s Mavericks show in an episode published on Wednesday (January 22), Weezy affirmed that his best is still ahead of him when asked to choose his favorite. But in his massive body of work thus far, he has to go with his 1997 song “Block Burner” off the Hot Boys album, Get It How U Live!
Only 15 at the time the song came out, teenage Wayne didn’t curse at all on the song – which earned him the respect of many of his New York peers.
“To me to this day, my best verse is going to always be […] my first solo song on the Hot Boys album,” he began. “It was a song called ‘Block Burner.’ [I don’t curse] at all on that. And so when we would go do shows and stuff in New York, like just stuff in New York like even a TV show or something – if they had another New York artist on that, they would always pull me to the side and let me know like, ‘Bro, I respect that you rap like that and don’t cuss.'”

He continued: “Because they would always also tell me, ‘I thought when I listened to you, I thought you was just gonna be a little sing-song artist where it doesn’t matter if you cussing or not. But you really be rapping.’ Always New York artists.”
The convo begins around the 11:17 mark below.

On Wednesday (January 22), a series of shows billed as “Lil Wayne with special guests Hot Boys” was announced. The three concerts will take place in late February in Tampa, Charlotte, and St. Louis.
The mini-tour, a press release explains, will be “headlined by Lil Wayne with special guests Hot Boys – B.G., Juvenile & Turk.”
Tickets for the shows are currently available for pre-sale. General on sale will begin on Friday (January 24). All tickets can be purchased here.
Hot Boys reunions have gone a few different ways in the last year. The most recent went down in November at the LilWeezyana Fest in New Orleans and featured all four members — Turk, B.G., Juvenile and Wayne — onstage together as a full four piece to perform several numbers for the first time since 2000. They were joined by Mannie Fresh and Birdman as well.

They rapped “Get Your Roll On,” “I Need a Hot Girl” and “Neighborhood Superstar,” in addition to versions of their solo material.
Months prior, at the Essence Festival, there was a different setup: Wayne only came onstage once B.G. and Juvenile, joined by Mannie and Birdman, were finished performing. [Turk was missing, saying in the leadup to the show that the “business side of it” was getting in the way.]
At Essence Fest, Weezy performed for 20 minutes without his former bandmates, producer and label head — who then all returned, without Juvenile, for a final song after Wayne left the stage.
During Wayne’s set, the Cash Money logos onscreen were replaced by ones for his label Young Money, and he said he was “here on behalf of Young Money fucking Records.”

There was one more Hot Boys show, in Houston last month. According to a review in the Houston Press, that show had each member performing separately, though all four did come together at the end for a four-song mini set.
