Lil Durk has been one of the biggest rappers out of Chicago over the last few years and a lot of the youth in the city has looked up to him and what he has been able to accomplish in music.
Recently speaking with HipHopDX Senior Features Writer Ural Garrett at Essence Fest, Durk talked about his hometown and the murder rate that has plagued the city heavily over the last few years.
“It’s definitely slowing down,” he said via a segment of today’s (July 7) DX Daily. “Ain’t no murders going to stop 100 percent but it definitely slowing down from what it was. It’s definitely a blessing to be a part of Chicago.”
Lil Durk also says that he’s a big voice to the youth in the city and that a lot of people in general look up to him in the Chi.
“The [whole reason] the Chicago movement is slowing down, the murder rate [is because we’re] being positive and being able to make it out of Chicago,” he explained. “I just think I’m a big voice in Chicago that speaks to everybody, especially the kids.”

Nice try but the murder rate is on track to be higher than last year. After the first six months of 2014 there were 189 murders in CHI. In 2015, by June 30th, there have been 215 murders. Lil Durk and his dumb, uneducated ass is part of the problem.
