Trae Tha Truth is a Houston legend and has been releasing a steady stream of quality material since the 1990s.

Recently sitting down with HipHopDX’s Senior Features Writer Ural Garrett, Trae spoke about his forthcoming album, Tha Truth, and says that the project went from being a mixtape to an album and then an album to a double LP.

“At first I thought about doing a mixtape but then I ran with it and I was like, ‘I’m going to go for the album,’ he said when asked about the album via a segment of today’s (July 7) DX Daily. “It’s so crazy because I have so many songs that I already have an album lined up. Right now, on July 24 they’re going to get [the first part and then] a couple months later they’re going to get the second half of Tha Truth because Tha Truth was originally 24 songs… All these already in order.”

Trae Tha Truth also reflected on his own career and says his goal isn’t about creating radio hits or Top 40 music. Rather, he’s more interested in continuing to do what he wants and what he believes his fans desire as well.

“When you’re really passionate the way we are about music we need to do it for us and the ones that really matter man; not think about record sales, not think about what’s going to be a single, not think about if I don’t have that big record or radio hit. Just go in there and do you,” he explained. “This album is going to be a perfect representation of me and where I am as far as the last five or six years go for those who really been wondering.”
