After being accused of sexual harassment last year, veteran music exec L.A. Reid left his position at Epic Records. Now, Reid has resurfaced with a new imprint called HitCo and announced Outkast’s Big Boi as his first signing.
According to Variety, HitCo is currently attempting to get the ATLiens’ solo track “All Night” on the radio. The song saw a surge in popularity following its use in an iPhone X campaign. The accompanying video for the Apple ad has over 15 million views.
Reid has worked with Outkast since his days at Arista. At the time, Big Boi and André 3000 were fresh out of high school. During that period, they collected multiple Grammys for their work on 2000’s Stankonia and 2003’s Speakerboxxx/The Love Below.
Big Boi’s Boomiverse album came out on Epic in 2017.
HitCo will reportedly be distributed by the independent imprint EMPIRE.

It’s really shitty, for as how deservedly critically acclaimed and respected within hip hop Outkast are/were, Big Boi hasn’t been as able to translate that on a solo scale. The majority of his solo shit is dope, and while he’s experimental, he isn’t Kanye west with it. He’s arguably the best MC out of them yet he stays in Dre’s shadow. Whatever though I fuck wit him regardless hope this shit works out.
Big Boi latest album is dope, as far as working with Reid is a septical but I hope for the best.

I dig OutKast but let’s be honest here. André is the STAR of the duo, not Big Boi. I wish we got another solo from André after The Love Below, which really doesn’t count as a solo but whatever.
I beg to differ. They had good chemistry and that is comparing apples to oranges.
Lets be honest Dre knew the Lauryn Hill formula. Come out in a group, drop some critic darling radio shit, then sit back and blame your artistry or some bullshit excuse for not making new music, when really you know you can’t compete with the Drakes Kanyes Cee-los NERDs etc that did what you were doing but made it better.
And they didn’t have to fuck Erykah Badu
Big boi always is on some new creative stuff and I fk with all his albums on the regular. Glad to see him getting deals as he is one of the best hip hop artists ever.
