KXNG Crooked Says Police Brutality Is “Everybody’s Problem”

Ferguson, Mike Brown and the numerous police brutality stories that’ve recently made headlines have been a hot topic. Some in Hip Hop have spoken out but very few at the top have made their voice heard on the situation.

KXNG Crooked, the rapper formally known as Crooked I, recently sat down with HipHopDX at the DX Headquarters and talked about the Mike Brown non-indictment and police brutality in general. Crooked says police brutality isn’t just a black problem, it’s a problem for everyone.

“We really need to organize and dow something about that,” he said when asked about recent stories of police brutality. “It’s a problem for everybody man, it’s everybody’s problem. We can’t allow the police to come kill the youth… Any rappers who want to get on the front lines I’ll get with you.”

KXNG Crooked also noted that most Hip Hop artists on the top of the charts have been silent about Ferguson and police brutality, something different from previous years in the genre.

“I don’t even know if the guys at the top have it in them to organize like that,” he said with concern. “I think if Hip Hop organizes we can change a lot of things in the community. I’ve seen it. Back when they was doing [“We’re All in the Same Gang”]. My bigger brothers were all gang banging, my uncles and cousins and all that and they was with that movement like you know what, this is some shit that needs to change. Hip Hop sparked that, “Self Destruction.” Now it’s like what can you do when the top men all they do is talk about twerk. Motherfuckers don’t really have it in they mind. They don’t care about Mike Brown until it’s them. It can be you.”

    1. Increased accountability will not come without changing the justice process in these cases. One thing that is clear is that cases involving police should not be tried locally. The prosecutors depend on the police way too much, they don’t want to jeopardize that relationship. I saw that at least five felony cases against Wilson were dropped while he was in hiding because he was the key witness. In my opinion, both of these chicken shit prosecutors did not want the blame for no indictment falling only on them so they called for these Grand Juries and then presented a half ass case where the only option for the Jury would be not to indict. Any case involving police brutality or excessive force needs to be tried at the federal level.

    2. not to throw shade on a bad and tragic situation but noone outside black people r gonna go this hard bc noones talking about anyone but black kids..there has been many white a few asian and arabs to die by cops within the last 5-6 years..google it..

but all everyone wants to talk about is black kids this and that what about ALL american kids? maybe if it is a nation wide and not limited to race ther might be more

    3. Lets talk about, coming together and evolving. how are we suppose to stop the outside world from killing us, when we cant stop the killings from inside? It have to start from us, in these inner cities, then work our way out .. til then shit will never change. tired of this shit.. mothafukas want to protest when the police kills us, but yet all my fukin homies are dead by another nigga! not black. but a Nigga! i aint with shit til we can get our selves right.. fukin shame..

    4. Rappers are quiet because they perpetuate violence with their lyrics and they know it, so every time they consider saying something they can’t find the words because it will always make them look like hypocrites.
