Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl Show Criticized By Charlamagne Tha God For Being Too Drake-Heavy

Kendrick Lamar was way too focused on Drake during his performance at the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show – so says Charlamagne Tha God.

Following Kenny’s set on Sunday night (February 9), Charlamagne and his co-hosts on The Breakfast Club shared their thoughts on air the next morning.

To the veteran radio host, he feels that Kendrick is so much more than a diss song and he didn’t even need to perform it on the big stage because he has so many other hits.

“I still wouldn’t have done ‘Not Like Us’ if I was Kendrick,” he said. “Kendrick is bigger than ‘Not Like Us.’ ‘Not Like Us ‘is a moment in time for Kendrick; it does not define him or who he is.”

Later, he added: “At the end of the set it said ‘game over’ and I really hope it is at this point. You should never go past the mark you aim for in victory. […] I just wouldn’t give my opp and his minions that kind of love on that big ass stage.”

During his breathtaking 15-minute performance at New Orleans’ Caesars Superdome, Kendrick Lamar repeatedly referenced his bitter feud with the 6 God before eventually performing his chart-topping diss track.

Roughly halfway through his set, the Compton rap star taunted his archrival by saying in a back-and-forth with female backup dancers: “I want to perform their favorite song… but you know they love to sue,” a clear nod to Drake’s controversial defamation lawsuit against Universal Music Group over “Not Like Us.”

During the actual performance of the track — the penultimate song in his set — Kendrick self-censored the “certified pedophile” line but smirked to the camera as he said: “Say Drake, I hear you like ’em young / You better not ever go to cell block one / To any [bitch] that talk to him and they in love / Just make sure you hide your lil’ sister from him.”

He also performed the lyrics: “Tryna strike a chord and it’s probably A minor,” with enthusiastic help from the capacity crowd.

The halftime show also included a surprise cameo from Drake’s ex-girlfriend and Compton native Serena Williams, who could be seen Crip Walking on an elevated stage as “Not Like Us” transitioned into the closing track, “TV Off.”

Another apparent dig at Drake came at the very end when the crowd lit up to display the words “Game Over,” which continued the video game theme of the performance.

Some fans also speculated that Kendrick’s chain, which featued a lower case “a” pendant, was a nod to his “A minor” line from “Not Like Us,” but it’s also the logo of his creative company pgLang.

The TV audience for the game likely exceeded 120 million viewers, who tuned in to watch the Kansas City Chiefs get demolished by the Philadelphia Eagles 40-22 in an upset result.

Drake, who is currently on tour several thousand miles away in Australia, has yet to comment on the performance.

    1. Charla still a fraud go back to North Carlonina with that fake accent. Yes the show was trash for other reasons and I hope all of you that knocked Sexyy Red call out Serena for crip walking. Bruno mars called out for that line throw up a set call her out over that dumb stuff same with Kendrick wannabe hood trying to make poverty and gangs cool. You’re not like them. Joe Budden better call it out like he did Bruno the BET awards should be called out too Boondocks warned yall. Ye warned us too they can make you and break you this could be the fall for Kendrick. Lil Wayne was the right choice not Kendrick and Drake probably adding more to the lawsuit he has a very strong case. The worst case the judge has to talk to them like kids and have each make a video statement discrediting that the other is not such slanderous thing as well as statements from UMG and other partners. Google might go on a whole spree taking down articles and videos calling Drake a pdf.

    2. 43 year old millionaire married to a whole white man crip walking in front of the wotld after her big sister was murdered by compton crips… wow. She sure showed Drake LOL

      1. You really in your feelings huh? If it didn’t matter, why did Drake talk to his crowd about it that night during his own stadium tour? Quit crying like a bitch over a man who doesn’t know you and wouldn’t be your friend even if you tatted OVO on your forehead and gave him your 14 year old daughters virginity.

    3. Kanye said he loved it and it was the best halftime show he’s seen since Michael Jackson. Now he’s saying Drake is the new RKelly. He’s warning Kendrick they’ll do him like Diddy when he’s not useful the hews

    4. The crowd in Australia was way louder than Kendrick at the super bowl. Drake still bigger and Kendrick is going to have a massive fall off this year. All you clowns go down with him everyone will remember how annoying all of you were.

      1. That shits going to flop. That’s why he’s not dropping a solo effort. He’s trying to test the waters and see his own numbers are without his labels bots faking them anymore because like Drake, all you clowns care about is numbers. Let’s see the real numbers for once. Cardi B’s one album will probably do better

    5. Performing a nine-month old diss song is kind of crazy. It’s like if Nas did Ether a year later. Diss songs are meant for that moment and that moment only. I don’t even like to go back and listen to diss songs unless I’m in a certain mood.

      1. But there is a whole video of Nas performing ether a year later at Webster hall

        Low vibrational level comment people

      2. Yeah, because performing it in that venue is the same as doing it at the Super Bowl after performing it nonstop for 9 months. Ether wasn’t even a radio hit. It was what it was supposed to be, for the streets and clubs. Are you fucking serious with that comparison?

      3. Dude won multiple Grammys for it, a week ago and more Grammys alone than Drake’s entire career but yeah he shouldn’t perform it. Drake fans really are walking talking vaginas on menopause 😂

    6. The holier than thou/’breathtaking’ superbowl performance shows us all one thing: Kendrick is still in his feelings…that’s a gay ass trait dog. And…Drake is a f@gg0t
