During Kendrick Lamar’s set at the Hangout Music Festival, things took an awkward turn when K. Dot invited a fan on stage to perform “m.A.A.d. city.”
The fan, a white woman by the name of Delaney, was greeted with cheers from the audience prior to beginning her performance. But when she rapped along to “m.A.A.d. city,” Delaney opted to not censor herself and said each instance of the n-word despite groans from the crowd.
About three n-bombs in, Lamar cut the music, prompting Delaney to ask, “I’m not cool enough for you? What’s up, bro?”
The irritated audience offered lots of boos and a few uncensored jeers as Delaney apologized and pleaded with K. Dot to give her another shot. Lamar did provide Delaney with a second chance, saying, “You gotta bleep one single word though.”
Unfortunately, “m.A.A.d. city” was also butchered the second time around, forcing Lamar to declare “It’s over.”
The multi-platinum selling artist reportedly followed up the uncomfortable moment with a performance of “Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe.”

Any white fan would have. Kendrick is considered the best rapper, anyone would be hyped rapping his song on stage with him.
Do these rappers not look in the crowds and see that most of their audience is white if they are making significant amounts of money? If you don’t want people to say a word, don’t put it in your lyrics idiot. Or better yet, don’t say it yourself at all if you have a problem with it. If you can’t handle someone saying words you’re a coward.
The worst part is Kendrick is a pop rapper with a very loose grasp of any social or political issues but is held up as the savior of rap. Gtfoh, Kendrick thinks that lost tribe of Israel bullshit it’s real, might as well be a five percenter.
Thats something a mayonaise eating colonizer would say.
Learn to think for yourself Ramal, I pity you.
Let me find out your telapathic and you know what everybody’s thinking lol
Pity these nuts, you don’t even know what you’re thinking how can u guess what someone else is thinking. I pity your ignorance Napolean lol.
She was wrong but he should stop saying it too ..words have power…
Kendrick with the L that was like a trap
That’s BS. If you invite someone on stage to rap the song and then you shut them down because they said the lyrics to the song? There is a famous video of Hospin having some white kid rap one of his songs word for word N-word and all. It’s an honor to get to perform on stage and an honor to have a fan know all your lyrics and perform on stage. There are many places to take a stand but on stage to one of your biggest fans who definitely meant no harm and DEFINITELY ain’t racist is probably not one of them.
I don’t even read the comments or post comments on these blogs yet i am here every fucking day, and I feel the need to just share, as a white rapper myself… She was mega trapped… The people who boo’d her are fucking followers. Anyone in their right mind should sympathize with her.
I jus wonder how man white people booed when she said it..but normally say it with there friwnd (white friends at home) im white an when i here other white peo0le sayin it its fuckin cribgeworthey….never felt the need to say it for point..its wack
So you Censor yourself when you rap along your fav tracks?? Thats the real cringe. Can vividly imagine you whiteboy sitting in your room listen to DMX. Plus, your name Ikeeptit100 make you sound like some Malibu Most Wanted typa Rap Fan. LMFAO
so you bring her on stage knowing the words of your song and she repeated the words of the song and you get mad? i feel like you trapped this lady, “K-Dot.”
hope she learned her lesson, she wasn’t being accepted as being down she was set up to be embarassed.
Never Ignorant, Getting Goals Accomplished.
Damn! We can buy your music, help you build your empire buy buying tickets to yours shows, buy your merchandise but we have to censor ourselves? I’m so sick and tired of this crap.
you’re not black and it’s a racial slur, blind fool. #WeakmInded. learn to rap by substituting it or just don’t say it and you’ll be alright! Just because you support them remember always whites are guests in the house of Hip Hop and aren’t black!
HAHA. Yesterday every black dude on this websites was like Culture Approproation is dead in that Nikki Minaj Article and now we back to Whites are Guests in Hip Hop. Hip Hop turned fascism
White folk own the house of hip hop. Think about it, how many black folk really own their own label you have some inde artist yes but maybe 1 or 2 major labels.
Guests in hip hop? Thanks Lord ‘Racist’ Jamar. I guess colored folk are guests in the NBA as a white guy made that, hey? Your argument has many inconsistencies.
Funny, whenever someone questions the legitimacy of white rap fans I think of Lord Jamar too. What was the group he was in…I think it was brand Nubian. God they fucking sucked.
Get the fuck outta HIP HOP…
Oh, and I thought it wasn’t a racial slur. What happened to the nigg-a vs nigg-er crap rappers will argue to make it okay to use the word 100 times a song?
Two people, one white, one black, write the n-word on a two identical pieces of paper. They mix them up. Tell me which one is a racist slur.
Yeah she should have known better but c’mon. No biggie, she meant no animosity, she was there to have a great time.
this has always puzzled me. Im a 38yo white australian hip hop fan, Fu-Schnickens got me into rap then into Wu Tang then into Big and so on and so on..24 years…rappers put the N word into music that is sold for consumption to the masses….why put it in their if you know people will sing it, including white people, and why ask a white fan on stage to rap it knowing that the lyrics contain it? when we rap along to the music at no point do we mean it in a racial way….i think its an over reaction….BUT….i understand the connotation and the displeasure it creates when black people here it from white people…quite the double edged sword.
This is so dumb. So white/non-white people can’t say the “n” word even though its all in the lyrics and they are the biggest buyers/supporters of rap, smdh…….I’m black and this just doesn’t make any sense to me. I don’t even use the “n” word when I’m speaking to my family or friends because its just a dumb @zz f’d up word. I also don’t get mad when other races use the word when they are repeating rap lyrics.
Black people and rappers need to stop being so dumb and word lazy. Stop using the word in general if some of your supporters can’t use it…
I’ve been the only white guy at a lot of rap shows and I’m not about to sing along dropping the N bomb. There’s other words you can use in its place and still continue to flow of the song and be an ignorant ass.
Not be an ignorant ass…. thats what I meant to say. I was torn between “.. song and not be an ignorant ass.” and … “… song instead of being an ignorant ass”. Im high so I wrote neither hahahaha
come rap my song, whomever you might be, any fan of hiphop is welcome. Wait wait wait, dont rap my song word for word if you aren’t black, leave out the n-word please. Did someone forget the stipulation? Are black men and women the only one allowed to say the n word? I hear honkey this and honkey that, n-word this, n-word that coming out of kendrick’s mouth. Is rapping someone’s verse as an homage really that disrespectul? Is race the real issue at play here or is free speech? What’s okay for me to say, is not okay for someone else to say? Grow up Kendrick, race baiting is for the children who run CNN.
So being anti-white and denying free speech is the way of kendrick lamar? Damn, i thought Good Kid Maad City was a great album, such a disappointment to hear the liberal poetic trash made after that album. Enough is enough with the segregation, thought policing, and the villainization of people not of color who enjoy hiphop. You can racebait as many white fans of rap music as you want, but when you invite them to sing a song of who you are the writer, how can you decide that their race is not allowed to the same terminology as that used in the song the artist is pushing someone to sing. Sing my song, but censor yourself because you are not the same race as me. What about every rap song that was written by a white person which has the same n-word used in the song? This guy kendrick fell off hard after 2012, why is his music only allowed to be celebrated by people of the same color as he? Race baiting stooge is the title of the next lp?
Sit yo wordy ass down.
Lol realizing this is a all white kids hip hop website just based off the comments. Every single one of you who has a problem with censoring yourself, here’s an idea; walk to the most “hood” place you know, with the heaviest concentration of brown people and rap those lyrics to them. Just do that before you talk about doing it at a concert. And to the Wiz Kid who said whites own hip hop, he’s horribly misguided. Whites own the industry, which gave us Lil Pump, (dying) Lil Peep, (dead, RIP) and Nintendo 64. The urban community owns hip hop, and THAT, doesn’t have a color base.(Alcehmist, Evidence, clearly not racist, clearly white, rap and never dropped n bombs.) Read up, bitch.
Bitch? You go to a concert to sing along. Your arguments are based off false equivalences. The two are nothing alike. And no black joke rappers have died have they?
Violence makes you right? Idiot
HHDX censoring my comments and removing my post that was clearly unbiased nor racist
I thought liberals supported people identifying as something else… this fan could of at that moment identified as being black. Imagine a female rock band stopping a trans gendered man identifying as a female from singing the word woman .. Muhahahaha
Yeah, foul on her for not having enough common sense to sub in a different word. But let’s not get carried away. It’s his fucking lyrics she’s reciting.
That’s the 400 years Kanye was talking about roght there.
Yeah … I really think it’s time for hip hop to retire the N word. Surely a Pulitzer Prize winner can think of other words to express himself… right ?
Stop putting it in songs then. Kendrick is not as intellectual as the industry and media portrays him as being. He was put in that category only because trap music was at its all time high. I write a lot of rhymes and I never use that word period. Wisdom is a choice to have. Be wise… there are ppl of all races listening to hip-hop. Does that mean they can only say it in their own homes? Give it up! Everybody got heated when Sharpton told us that it shouldn’t be used. That was a decade ago. America is a mixed race of ppl anyway. Blacks got white in em (even if your dark) and whites got black in em (even if your light). It’s just been covered up for a long time because of embarrassment. Forget white and black ppl!!! Love to the natives of this country that don’t have a voice still to this day. America sucks. Stupid, ignorant country anyway. Everybody from different countries trying to be the most important. We’re not important. God’s important because he made us in His image and likeness. Why don’t we see that? Peace.
Ah, she isn’t a seasoned rapper. Ah, ‘try to turn victim after doing something wrong’…..lol. I won’t even get into the hypocrisy of that comment.
LOL All that shit is hilarious. People are hilarious. Cant find better word.
Making n word call was one of the dumbest things black culture did. We can’t cry now cause millions are using it. its basically accepting to be a subhuman slave.
I mean “cool”
But.. but.. Jay-Z said that by calling each other that, we took the pain out of the word…… So how can this bother anybody?? The pain is gone! Jay-Z said so!! Lmao
This dude just made himself the leading douche bag in the world – and this is a world filled to the brim with douche bags.
This was a set up. Pre planned.
I think that HHDX not making this a headline is the most cowardly thing they’ve ever done.
I challenge a conversation of rap artists profiting of racial and socially unacceptable slurs in todays music. Why is that acceptable? Also, this conversation of which fans must self censor themselves is long overdue. Do the same rules apply for when a rap artist invites a POC on stage, Mr.Lamar? If the music, the lyrics are what you what to portray to the listener, and the listener sings/raps them back- in the manor the song was intended/created by the artist, isn’t the artist responsible for his artwork? Asking for a white woman.
I mean honestly, what’s next? A “Whites Only” copy of DAMN with the N-word edited out ? Grow up!
A White Edition with ear plugs attatched to put into ears when the n-word is coming.
Oh no Kendrick…please no, I got love and respect for you don’t fuck it up. So you’ll accept white people’s money for your music, but you won’t let them sing along? At a fucking hiphop show, you’re gonna censor people becuz of their skin color? You can’t make this shit up. I hate to break it to yall but if white people boycotted hiphop, it would no longer exist. I know the thought of that hurts your hearts, but its the truth. Hiphop sold itself to be accepted by white people out of irrational emotion, now they hold its life in their hands. I don’t think its in mainstream rapper’s best interest to alienate your white fans.
It must be hard for black people to know they are associated with people like yourself…People like this clown are the reason nobody takes yall seriously, your skin color really has nothing to do with it other than for identification purposes. Ra Lee you are a victim and I feel for you, it must be so difficult being a moron of astronomical measures every…single…day…of your life.
(1) Um, lol… Tell me y’all are joking, right? KDot “not letting her sing his song?!”
Lol, you do know how this ignorant, “… am I not cool enough, bro?!?,” sadly accurate reflection of America today got on stage to begin with… right?! Fellow “bros,” KDot literally invited her up there TO “sing his song.” Lolol.
(2) As for, lol, sorry, as for why KDot didn’t feel comfortable with her singing the most offensive word in the entirety of English language? Here’s a tip, a “free” one, lol:
Google the word “Slavery.”
(3) Should one still find oneself deeply, deeply confounded as to why mean ole Kendrick could even, in his right mind, possibly feel as he did about everything else you mentioned, yeah, follow the tip, found towards the end of the afore-mentioned number (2): Google “Slavery.”
Lol, best of luck.
P.S Oh, and bros, should you find yourself still dumbfounded, right, ask any – yes, any – human being of Afro-American descent. (Notice I used the word “any.” So, to answer that question on loop in your head right now: No, not having any Black friends won’t be a problem.)
I can really see why, in general, it’s not okay for white people using the N-word. But if it’s part of your own song you’re asking a fan to perform? Get out of here Kendrick, what a bitch move…
Fuck Kendrick Lamar, i never like nothing that nerd came out with. The 2nd weakest rapper from Compton in the 2000’s. Game is the 1st. Look what EAZY-E created by putting CPT on the Map. A Bucket full of Sucker MC’S!!!!! B.G.Knocc and Bone is the only ones i ever respected. Free C-Murder and BGizzle
If (if) we stand on first amendment rights any rap fan has the right to sing/rap/ as the song is in its original form. In this case, Kendrick Lamar did ask a white female to join him on stage, not a P.O.C. Any true K-dot fan (myself included) would know all the words in its entirity to his songs. In my view, it was kind of a set up, on Lamars behalf. Had this white female fan intentionally used derogatory, racist language on stage- then yes she deserved to be shut down-Without debate. Or is this another case of “a black person can say N***a, not a white person”argument. However, if a rap arstist, such as, Kendrick Lamar, condones a racially charged word in all his lyrics and Profits off that comerialization of the MOST contriversial racial slurr in the world, then invites white fans on the stage to rap-a-long, Who is responsible for the censership of the lyrics?? Should Kendrick preemtivly prompt white fans to self censor themselves. Does the artist have the same censorship for persons of color fans?? Rap artist commercially use Bi*** and N***a in songs that are widely accessible thought out the world market. My question is does a performing rap artist expect non- black fans to have an aternatle version for the work, materials they created? Are non POC expected to have a self censorship of the music they enjoy listening to?
