Kendrick Lamar Becomes 1st Rapper Not Named Eminem To Have A 300-Week Billboard Charting Album

Released in October 2012, Kendrick Lamar’s classic studio debut album good kid, m.A.A.d. city put the Compton native on his current trajectory to be on the receiving end of Pulitzer Prizes, among countless other accolades.

In the original album review, HipHopDX called the album “a shot at history,” which has turned out to be a prophecy fulfilled.

Billboard recently discovered that the soon-to-be six-year-old album (which currently — and astonishingly — sits at No. 116 on the Billboard 200) spent its 300th week on the chart. It’s only the fourth Hip Hop album to do so, with the other three belonging to none other than Eminem. (2010’s Recovery (now at 312 weeks), 2002’s The Eminem Show (now at 354 weeks) and 2005’s Curtain Call: The Hits (now at 403 weeks.)

Overall, 22 albums have hit the 300-week mark, with the frontrunner being Pink Floyd’s iconic The Dark Side of the Moon (937 weeks) and second place finisher Bob Marley and the Wailers’ Legend: The Best Of… a.k.a. the most ubiquitous reggae project of all time.

It should also be noted that Kendrick had a near consecutive run throughout those 300 weeks; it only fell off the Billboard 200 during the Dec. 6, 2014-dated chart.

      1. It’s called English buddy.. many ways to say the same thing. Smarten up there pal. …
See how I used 2 different words (buddy, pal) to convey the same sentiment. Let’s have a toast for America’s education system!

    1. Couldn’t the headline have said “2nd rapper” instead of “1st rapper not named Eminem”?

        1. Okay, smart ass. Never said it was the wrong way, just saying that they could’ve used fewer words in the headline, intelligent donkey. (see, I did it too)

          1. Both of you mouth breathers stfu. It’s called click bait, you bumbling fools. Got your attention, didn’t it? Blithering idiots.

    2. ..but Kendrick is not the first rapper to accomplish this feat regardless of how it’s worded tho.

      1. The said the first rapper not named Eminem to go 300 plus weeks. In other words he is THE SECOND RAPPER to accomplish the feat of 300 weeks or more.

    3. Classic. Common’s “Be” was the best rap album of 2000-2009. I think “GKMC” is the best rap album of 2010-2019. It was like Singleton and Ice Cube’s Boyz N the Hood for this generation. Perfectly captured the pain, despair, reality, hope, and promise of young Black men today. Deserves its stay on the charts.

      1. Eminem has good lyrics though. He is talented. He deserved his spot. Kendrick will be the GOAT for everyone at some point, and in my opinion he is the GOAT already. Don’t have to knock Slim to say Kendrick is better though. Kendrick is just so much deeper and paints such a broad picture. When you compare the two obviously slims albums are gonna look “not that good”. Slim is very lyrical but not many of his songs hit you on a deep level. Kendrick hits me on a deep level with almost everything he puts out. Slim kills rhymes though and is still a very great MC.

        1. I have never once felt emotion on a deep level from a Kendrick song…hell, 90% of Kendrick’s music puts me to sleep. At least Slim Shady gives you an adrenaline rush.

        2. EM VERY VERY OVER RATED,he’s ok at best he does know how to rap but clearly all white privilege from the start….

    4. Kendrick z only good a rapper. Forget goat?. He’s jx lived in the era of mumble rap, hype n streaming. Gkmc z survived by a natural feedback mechanism where ppl look at his other material n find no classic n are desperate to give him a classic album so its js gkmc which makes some sense. J. Cole, big sean, schoolboyQ etc r at par or better than him

    5. Just goes to show, Drake’s label’s click farm investments sure slow down once they’ve done what they wanted. K. Dot is easily this generatikn’s best rapper. Hands down. I just hope Dre makes an entire album of beats for him one of these days.
