Kendrick Lamar Beaten By Eminem At American Music Awards

Kendrick Lamar‘s seemingly unbeatable streak has finally come to an end at the American Music Awards.

While the Compton superstar did pick up a win for Favorite Hip Hop Song with “Not Like Us”, he was otherwise shut out at the ceremony.

Lamar was nominated across five other categories including Artist of the Year but was beaten by Billie Eilish.

Eilish also triumphed over Lamar in Album of the Year and Song of the Year.

The biggest upset came in the Hip Hop categories with Eminem taking home both Favorite Hip Hop Artist and Favorite Hip Hop Album.

Lamar and SZA were also nominated for Collaboration of the Year but beaten by Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga with their smash hit “Die With A Smile”.

“Die With A Smile” also beat “Not Like Us” to Favorite Music Video.

Despite failing to come out victorious at the AMA’s, Lamar has been breaking records left and right over the last year.

A recent performance by Kendrick and SZA on their Grand National Tour in Seattle grossed $14.8 million meaning Dot became the first rapper to ever break the $14 million mark for a single concert.

It was the most attended gig on the tour so far with almost 61,000 fans attending.

Kendrick broke his own record with the feat after a performance at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas brought in a whopping $11.822 million in a single night.

That concert meant Lamar became the highest grossing Black man in history for a single live performance.

The record was previously held by The Weeknd, who grossed $9.8 million at his 2022 concert at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

The opening night of the Grand National tour also saw Lamar first break the record for highest grossing rap concert in history.

According to Touring Data, the opening night in Minneapolis grossed over $9.1 million from more than 47,000 fans at an average price of $192.70.

Lamar has not just been breaking records on the live performance front, he has been smashing through long-existed chart records also.

“Not Like Us” recently became the first ever rap song in history to spend an entire year on the Billboard Hot 100.

    1. Remember folks, the. AMAs are fan voted. Which means people with bad taste, yt people and their wannabes get the most say. Because ain’t no way in Hell Eminem’s last album was better, or more influential than GNX and Not Like Us.

      1. Yup I have to remember Eminem doesn’t think like his fans. There is no reason that Em should have one either one of those categories. He fans would tell you he should win even when he’s not nominated.

      2. It’s not fan voted it’s whoever they want it to be. This is to pat the puppets on the back. Kendrick and plant won at the Grammy’s to help push agenda and narrative.

      3. I had to laugh that one for real that was a good one…so let me get this straight here Em only won because actual ”PEOPLE” meaning the public had a choice to have their say and vote for who ”THEY” actually wanted to win and that’s the problem for you here…yet kendrick only won because a few higher up’s at certain award ceremonies came to an agreement that he should take the prize without the need of a public vote but that’s not a problem at all to you??…does that not say more about the awards Kendrick was gifted then it say’s about the people actually getting a chance to have a say and vote on who they actually wanted to win the award in the first place???…because if that’s the case then Kendrick would of easily had another clean sweep on his hands if enough people actually shared the same belief as you but it turns out that’s not the case here at all

The people had their say here and not the higher up’s so Kendrick lost out on some unfortunately..

      4. Not “the people” dude, Eminem zealots. They’re a different breed. Theres a good reason Eminem actually coined the term “Stan”.

      5. @James K Polk I’ll let you in on a couple. 1: Eminem has fans who don’t like Kendrick, Rap music or Black people in general. They’re the kind of losers who hate “woke” and flood Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB with 1 star ratings if a movie stars Black people or women. 2: The truth hurts.

      6. @Good Kid, Mad Pity. Kendrick’ album beat Eminem’s by literally every metric. But just on sheer cultural impact GNX was far superior to Eminem’s last joint. The “higher ups” got it right this time. As to the public, I said what I said. By your logic, Junk food must be better than a healthy meal since more people prefer a trash diet.

      7. Sorry for the late reply man this is not i site i frequent much..I love that last point you made there to be honest brother…but just like you’ve pointed out by stating that, isn’t that what music is all about?..isn’t it all about a matter of taste and you enjoy the most?..Mcdonald’s serves about 60 to 70 million people a day, now it might not be the healthiest food..but if those 60 to 70 million people tell you the food is great and they thoroughly enjoyed it surely they all can’t be wrong can they?…Em’s fans didn’t rob Kendrick of nothing here, if anything it was his own fans that never took the time to vote for him in the first place..this just goes to show you that having an impact on a cultural scale doesn’t mean much when it comes to a global one…I’ve honestly seen more people take the time out to come onto social media to complain about him losing then i’ve seen vote for him which is extremely unfortunate…anyways have a good day man and all the best

      8. Well said, Eminem fanbase is deranged. I exclude them from hip hop and conversations. Not even worth to go back and forth with. Em will also agree that it was Kendrick’s year. This is the perfect example of the hip hop culture and Eminem fanbase being 2 different things. They will never be able to influence the culture they can’t stand it. Before people say crazy stuff, I am a European guy not from the hood. But it’s clear that it’s Kendricks moment.

      1. A bunch of white people voted for a white guy. What part of that is racist? If you’re going to troll, try harder stupid.

    2. I was born with Drake’s dick in my mouth so I can never see anything else but his balls in front of me. BENDRICK DESERVES TO LOSE. Bend me over King Ding-a-ling DRIZZY. 🍆🥒👄😋🍭🐓

    3. Kendrick fans are getting worse than Beyonce’s when it comes to awards entitlement. GNX was alright, better than Mr Morale at least, but Kendrick’s voice is seriously grating at times. TDoSS was also alright but the concept has already been done on other albums and Em’s skills could have been put to better use. Not Like Us might be the most overrated song I’ve ever seen blow up. Either way, Kendrick not sweeping every awards category in existence is not an “upset”.

      1. Good for him. Are his finances supposed to have some impact on how I feel about music or are you just coping as a defence mechanism like all the Drake fans?

      2. Agreed, GNX is better than Mr. Morale but that ain’t saying nothing lol. His voice has become unlistenable at times for me as well. I’ve always followed and bopped along to Kendrick albums before Mr. Morale but his voice change has ruined it for me

    4. Yeah it was geared towards top zionist puppets. Except Janet?? Why she wearing that shirt? But yeah Eminem no surprise under Paul Roseberg and then Beyonce as country artist??? Yeah it was clear that’s how the AMAs are and heard that girl Billie won stuff too her parents are Hollywood she’s an actual nepo baby whatever word people use super full of herself.

    5. Meanwhile these west coast dudes running defense for him against Joey. Ab Soul now wants in, Daylyt ran is trying to play it off, and YG made a song and video with dudes twerking to MC Hammer beat. West coast was always fake. So is Eminem. Kendrick Dr Dre the abuser might have signed you and liked you but Eminem is his boo

    6. These results (not just the Eminem win) show that outside of the hip hop bubble, Kendrick is not it. He is an amazing rapper, but nobody cares. His streams have been through the roof but we all know the machine can buy/fabricate whatever they want. His SB performance was super boring and outside of his beef with Drake he has had minimal mainstream success in his career. He does not appeal to the masses. I’m not saying he isn’t an extremely talented artist, it’s just that most people don’t actually care about his music. He has also been acting hella corny over the past year as he clings onto this Drake thing. I also don’t like Drake, who is the king of corniness, but without Drake, Kendrick would still be in the shadows. As time goes on, Drakes line of “drop and give me 50” rings more and more true as Kendrick should be giving him 50% of everything.

Kendrick will win everything that is voted on by the establishment as they push whatever narratives they want. Right now is the pro-Kendrick movement. In the past it was the pro-Drake, Kanye, Taylor, Eminem, whoever movement. Whoever is getting the push from the machine will win certain awards and break certain records. But if you don’t appeal to the masses, you don’t win these fan-voted things. Maybe these losses are a sign that the machine is off Kendrick already, as he can’t make any waves without mentioning Drake and the lawsuit isn’t as fresh in their minds. Who knows? All I know is outside of these hip hop settings, nobody is talking about Kendrick, which is why this shit was not surprising at all.

      1. This loss is a sign that culture is back on the correct track. Outside of the hip hop bubble doesn’t matter in hip hop. That was his point.

        Drake is a pop star
        Marshall is a pop star

        Working as intended

    7. To say that GNX was not worthy of praise, or even to compare it to Mr.Morale- which was yet another profound album, but vastly different in theme- means to me that the people in these comments don’t know real art and don’t appreciate real art. I went to that concert and heard people sing every single lyric. We are talking stadiums full. The problem isn’t that the real people voted in the AMA’s, because I guarantee a lot of people didn’t- I can tell you for sure that I didn’t watch that shit. Go touch grass. Go read a book. Then come back and deeply listen to the music, because this is real art. Eminem has been washed, he needed to hang it up a long time ago- if we’re talking about “unlistenable”. He will forever be known for his music, but his new stuff is just not award worthy. You just feed into this narrative that the elite pulled strings for Kendrick because of your mind is rotted by conspiracy. Of course you don’t think it’s about race, of course you don’t believe that GNX is influential, and of course you don’t believe that Not Like Us deserves it’s Top 100 Billboard for an entire year- because half of you are talking badly of the West Coast, because of your conspiracies of Hollywood Elites, and your incapability to recognize that Compton and West Coast culture is actually- and has been for a long time- the most influential in America, especially for Black Culture. Yes, the East Coast held much importance for Black Culture as well, but we cannot ignore the waves of influence the West- arguably more than the South. People like Kendrick Lamar are bred for excellence because he strives to evolve- sorry his voice is not good enough for you, but it is a part of his evolution as an artist. His vocals on Luther? Absolutely beautiful. At the end of the day, you can’t appreciate an evolving artist, because a lot of y’all are just stuck. Wishing for your youth back or the way hip hop used to be. Art changes, society changes, culture stays. This album was rooted in culture- it is perfectly fine if you can’t understand that. Then don’t have an opinion about it.

    8. Kendrick sucks and Em hasn’t had a good album since eminem show. It always turns into race by the same people that want equal rights but then segregate themselves by putting black in front of everything. If you want to be equal stop segregating yourselves. All these awards are bs

    9. Only bad album Eminem has had was revival, kamikaze was fire , music to be murdered by side A and B was fire and the death of slim shady was pretty good so I don’t know what your talking about

    10. Keep in mind eminem only won because he’s white. Anyone who isn’t a racist can see that gnx easily shits on eminem’s failed shady album

    11. exactly the fans voted , who voted for kendrick when he won that grammy over eminem recently. it sure as fk wasnt the people. it wasnt the fans. it was whoever runs the grammys. I BET YOU THE PEOPLE WHO RUN THE GRAMMYS THOUGHT BACK TO BACK WAS A HARD ASS DISS. BUT ITS NOT NEITHER IS NOT LIKE US!! THOSE AINT GOT SHIT ON BULLY, OR NAIL IN THE COFFIN, OR GO TO SLEEP.

    12. Bunch of douche bags. Eminem won because he’s better than Kendrick. Does Eminem have more fans, yes! Which means he has bigger crowds, bigger numbers, larger votes. Nice try trying to dogg on the winner.
