Kehlani‘s ex is reportedly looking to gain full custody of their daughter and has lobbed some accusations the singer’s way.
According to documents obtained by TMZ on Monday (August 5), singer/guitarist Javaughn Young-White has filed a paternity petition, saying he believes the Oakland native has been involved with a cult for the past few years – which then obviously raises concerns about their 5-year-old’s upbringing.
According to Javaughn, the leader of the alleged cult has been accused of sexual assault numerous times, and he’s scared that their daughter Adeya could also be at risk of abuse.
Young-White also says that Kehlani is so deeply under the control of the cult leader that they now have her thinking he’s a threat to his own daughter and keeping her away from him.
In response to the petition, a judge has ordered the pair to attend mediation to settle on a mutually agreeable parenting plan.
Kehlani gave birth to Adeya in March 2019 and split with Javaughn shortly after. She briefly dated YG later that year, but has since confirmed she is fully lesbian.
And her sexual identity makes it a breeze for her friendship with fellow Bay Area native Saweetie and the “FDT” rapper, as they are now dating.
During a chat with Hot 97 in June, Kehlani opened up about her relationship with the pair after host Nessa complimented her for being the “cool” ex.
“Well because I’m a lesbian, so why would I care about any male exes?” the 29-year-old said while laughing. “I also don’t care about what any of my exes are doing – male, female, anything. My goal is everybody to be happy. Even when I’m with someone, if we decided that we’re not mutually happy, we really shouldn’t be together and we should go be with people who make us happy. And I love Saweetie!
“I think she’s so cute and so fine. We have a song together. We hang out. She’s cool. And they make so much sense. Like knowing them both, I’m like, you know what? I really like this. I’ve told him like, ‘I like this a lot. Y’all look cute together.’”
Kehlani also noted that she’s not the jealous type, adding: “I just quite frankly have too much pride for that. That’s embarrassing. If I was bothered, you would never know! That’s why I only crashed out once.”
