Kanye West’s “Gone” Hits Charts Eight Years After Its Release

Kanye West’s Cam’ron and Consequence-assisted “Gone,” a track off his 2005 album, Late Registration, debuted at #18 in the Hot 100 this week. “Gone” is also #6 on the R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart and #4 on the Rap Songs chart, as per billboard.com.

The Kanye West song gained popularity after being featured in a viral video recently.

The viral video featured writer and comedian Marina Shifrin who recently quit her job as a video editor. The clip showed her explaining her departure by dancing around an empty office to the tune of Kanye West’s “Gone.”

“On September 28th, I decided to leave my job as a journalist because I felt the industry wasn’t doing justice to its talented writers,” Shifrin wrote in an article on huffingtonpost.com. “I wanted to leave in a way that would make my parents laugh and do justice to my position as viral video editor. I came up with this video. I woke up the next day and found out a few people, 11 million and counting, had viewed it.”

The video, which has more than 15 million views, can be viewed below.

Shifrin was invited to “The Queen Latifah Show” to discuss the viral video’s success. While on the program, Latifah appeared to offer Shifrin a job.

“I want to be surrounded by cool, creative, interesting people,” Latifah said. “And with your experience, maybe I could create a position. What if I created something called digital content producer? You think that might be something you’re interested in?” Shifrin said she was interested and the two said they’d speak more about it.

Digital sales of “Gone” have also gone up, as per billboard.com. The selection moved approximately 9,000 units this week, according to Nielsen Soundscan. YouTube reports 6.2 million streams of the song in the U.S., allowing the single to rank at #4 in the Streaming Songs chart.

    1. Damn Wayne got all them hits cuz he does a million features. Kanye probably has more of his songs featuring others then Drake or Wayne

      1. Im white and I thought it was stupid. It seems like a lot of the videos that go viral appeal to morons and people who like terrible things

    2. Kanye’s best buddy egomaniac designer Marc Jacobs tortures a young girl. He stole her ideas and harassed her. He’s been stalking her since she was 16. Jacobs is a manipulator. He is to blame for Miley’s new shocking image. Read the details on: http://styleangelique.blogspot.dk/

    3. Ovbious publicity stunt by Kayne West. Miley Cyrus is successful on her own without having to do any stunts. Her twerking is a characteristic in hiphop that is becoming more cool amongst females.

      1. Oh, the irony and the bullshit in this comment. This is not a publicity stunt by Kanye at all; it’s a viral video by a comedian that had the song in it. Miley is only successful because of publicity stunts. Her twerking is not a characteristic in hiphop that is becoming more cool amongst females, it’s the opposite; it’s exploitation.

      2. Kayne paid the comedian to do that stunt. Miley is successful because of her singles that hit the top tier of the charts. Twerking’s not exploitation, its the new way of selling sex willingly. Also, she’s making more money than you.

      3. No no no, Actually Axis is right @dentaldamboy your are one of the Biggest idiots ever to leave comments in any type of comments section ever. You make up shit all the time and say dumb shit it’s kind of actually why ppl make fun of you on here.

    4. I need to point this out to all you dumb newbies new to the hip hop culture, “twerking” was around well before youR “FLAT ASS” Miley Cyrus starting doing it. Jamaican women were doing it long before any of these women in North AMERICA and Definitely well before MILEY CYRUS. I’m sick of people claiming her to be the one to have made it cool and have been the first to do it.

    5. 8 YEARS LATER. NOW YOU ALL UNDERSTAND THAT I RELEASE TIMELESS MUSIC. JIMMY KIMMEL CAN SUCK MY FAT BLACK KARDASHIAN PUSSY JUICED DICK. I AM A FUCKING ROCKSTAR!!!!! I GET MORE PUSSY THAN TOMMY LEE, MOTLEY CRUE, POISON, AND ALL THOSE OLD FUCKING ROCKSTARS EVER DID!!! I AM MOTHERFUCKING KANYE WEST!!! I WILL BE FUCKING KRIS JENNER, KIM, AND KHLOE ALL AT THE SAME FUCKING TIME. AT THE SAME DAMN TIME!!! FUCK OUTTA HERE. YOU’RE IN MY WORLD!!!

    6. Late Registration is my favorite Kanye album. Instrumentaly its superior to anything before or after it. Cant believe so many people are just now getting hip to “Gone”. One of the best songs on the album that everyone seems to pass by. The violin break after Consequence verse and Kanyes closing verse really made that song even better.

      1. Definitely agree. Late Registration is definitely my favorite Kanye album. The orchestra he invited into this album was great. The production is on another level.

      2. Couldn’t agree more. I purchased it on release day and it still gets played more than his following albums combined (not including College Dropout). 8 years ago he actually warranted that huge ego…
Gone is a truly fantastic song too, one of the best on the album.

      3. Co-Signature.

Yeezy’s last verse is an all-time great verse. Don’t expect him to rap like that anymore but sure is great to revisit those days.

    7. illuminati tring to get people listeing to late registration

FROM YEEZUS TO SLAUGHTERHOUSE IT REAL HIP HOP

THEY ALL FUCKING AROUND ON PURPOSE

      FROM EM TO KANYE

      1. he even said it him self that he isnt a musician, he doesnt know how to play a single instrument. he’s an artist.

    8. So suddenly 8 years later this song is cool? Fucking people man…song is good now just as it was then. Fuck these trends

      1. Man cosign!! I hate how people follow every ebb and flow of the media. Damn have your own thoughts and opinions!
