Kanye West Wants To Design Furniture For College Students

On BBC Radio1 today (August 1), Kanye West revealed his desire to design furniture for college kids.

West and IKEA met at the furniture giant’s headquarters in Sweden this past March, sparking rumors that they’d possibly be collaborating with each other in the future.

“I have to work with IKEA,” Ye tells  BBC Radio 1. “Make furniture for interior design, for architecture. I know that if I do a minimalist apartment inside a college dorm where the TV goes on the side of the wall, yo Ikea, allow Kanye to create, allow him to make this thing.”

The fashion streetwear designer, who had help from past IKEA collaborator Katie Eary on his Paris Fashion Week collection in 2011, hopes to create a furniture collection that will appeal to the college crowd off the strength of his name.

“Because, you know what, I want a bed that he makes, I want a chair that he makes,” the “Wolves” rapper imagines college and university students reasoning as to why a Kanye West-designed piece of furniture would be a good purchase.

If West’s sell-out adidas Yeezy Boost 350 sneakers, fashion collection and tour merchandise are any indication of the power and popularity that Kanye-branded anything holds, the move could make sense.

IKEA spokesman Jakob Holmstrom revealed to the Associated Press in March that the Grammy-winning producer visited several IKEA locations as well as their design department and says that only “time will tell” if the collaboration will actually come to fruition.
