Joyner Lucas Explains Why Eminem Is “The Greatest Ever”

Joyner Lucas was Zane Lowe’s call-in guest on Wednesday’s (October 17) episode of Beats 1 World Record. Not only did Lucas premiere his new track “I Love” from his forthcoming album ADHD, he also opened up about his relationship with Eminem and why he believes Slim Shady is superior to any other MC.

“Eminem has been someone that I’ve always considered the greatest ever, to ever do it,” Joyner tells Lowe. “In every aspect, the storytelling abilities, lyrical ability, honesty. You can hear it in my music that I’m heavily influenced by that.

“To have the opportunity — let alone be on a record with him — but also pretty much lead the record, and then lead the video and be in the video. A lot of people who record and made records with Eminem never got a video.”

Lucas also unveils he has another record with Shady, which will appear on ADHD.

“Even me being in the video and doing a video with him and kind of having that relationship with him and building  with him,” he says. “He’s a really good person, man. He’s a really good guy. We’ve had some dope, deep conversations. Eminem is definitely on ADHD.

“We have another record coming out and it’s more into my … we’re into Joyner Lucas territory, storytelling territory. That’s what me and Eminem, we both do best. He created one of the best records ever in life, which was ‘Stan.’ I’m heavily inspired by that record, too.”

ADHD is expected to arrive soon.

In the meantime, listen to the full interview and “I Love” below. [apple_news_ad type=”any”]

    1. It is sad that media outlets have shoved em to the front of the queue as the greatest. He is one of the greatest but not the greatest. The only difference in rapping ability between a rass lads and em is that em had the media push. Skill wise rasa was probably better.

I understand Joyner saying this as he is young and grew up on em. If you knew hip hop before em you would realise a lot of what em does is not original or better than the skills of the golden era rap. Hip hop needs to tell the whole story

        1. Nah unlike u Eminem is a student of the game. He knows he ain’t the greatest. Do yourself a favour go listen to 90s Rass Kass, Canibus , Paroah Monch etc.

          1. Canibus. Haha. Really. If you said rakim or big l def make argument. Canibus had few good tracks but not even in top 100 rappers

      1. I think em made it where he’s at cause his style is different. I’ve never heard songs similar to “my name is”, “the way I am” “Kim” just to name a few. He was influenced by a lot of older rappers and he always shows respect to them.

      1. Takes one now doesn’t it? Lol i think before you start sucking the d make sure, it’s wet enough so you can still talk about it….

    2. Seems to me people in this comment section rather beat aroud the bush why they don’t consider him the greatest! Cheesy comments. Doesn’t suprise me in the least. Not impressed by this comment section. Never delegate other people for your own benifit. It’s selfish and manipulative.

    3. What I see from your comment is you mean “why are” not “why is” and saying someone else is dumb when your grammar is terrible? Maybe you should go back to grade school before you can judge who is the G.O.A.T which definitely is Eminem. Smh ??

    4. Why can’t anyone have their own individual opinion anymore. EM featured him on his new single and now hes saying EM is the greatest ever? Every one of these dudes are so worried about not saying the right thing about a popular artist or their career is on the line. If you think Pac is the greatest and EM just put you on, then say I think PAC is the greatest and EM is up there as one of the greats in my opinion. These dudes are too worried about what other rappers will think or else they might not be featured on their albums any more.

      1. It’s your opinion that this man doesn’t have his own opinion because his opinion is the same as some other people’s opinions? Or is it possible em actually IS his favourite. You can clearly hear the influence hes had on joyner even in his earlier stuff. Not to mention he says it straight up years ago. Maybe now that he is got some buzz he used some pull to work with his idol. Em not even in my top 5 but i dont find this hard to believe.

      1. I was trying to reply to ‘Another Yes Man’. This happens to be my own individual opinion as well. I’m happy that me and Joyner have the same individual opinion.

    5. So because he said a white roper is the best he is a sell out? Typical reverse racism.

You can’t have it both ways you ignorant prick

    6. To be the greatest, wouldn’t you think that you would have to have muliple albums with the replay value of over 10 listens? Kamkaze couldnt make it past 6 listens for me. The Marshall Mathers LP was the hey day.

      1. If you don’t think Slim Shady LP, MMLP, Eminem Show, Recovery, & Kamikaze aren’t worthy of multiple listens (for some reason 10?), this genre is probably not for you.

    7. All these comments about his opinion. It’s his opinion. Enough said. No need to hate on it. I am sure most have an opinion. But be real…..if em ain’t in the top 8 all time you have to be jealous, uneducated on hip-hop, or racist. Sorry so blunt but truth. I think pac is the most overated of all time but I still put him in my top 8. Just enjoy the music. The headline said Eminem. If you straight don’t like him why even read the article. Grow up or go to some lil baby bs

    8. my favorite rapper of all time is eminem, I do not think he is the best of all times, but that he is the best alive, IT IS!
Kendrick is good, cole is good, jay z (a legend). It is my personal thought.
