John Legend has revealed that he and wife Chrissy Teigen have welcomed their third child, making the announcement during a live performance.
According to People, the “All Of Me” singer-songwriter shared the happy news during a private concert on Friday night (January 13) — which was the same day Teigen gave birth.
“What a blessed day,” John Legend is said to have told attendees. He also added that although he’d been at the hospital for a long time and hadn’t gotten much sleep ahead of the event, he felt “energized” after the baby’s birth.
Someone in attendance at Legend’s concert also took to Twitter to share news of the birth. “@johnlegend just told us he had a baby this morning #congratulations,” they wrote.
News of Legend and Teigen’s newborn comes two year’s after the couple lost a baby boy to a miscarriage. When announcing their latest pregnancy in August, Teigen admitted that she was nervous about announcing the arrival of their new child.
“The last few years have been a blur of emotions to say the least, but joy has filled our home and hearts again,” she wrote on Instagram. “1 billion shots later (in the leg lately, as u can see!) we have another on the way.”
She continued: “Every appointment I’ve said to myself, ‘ok if it’s healthy today I’ll announce’ but then I breathe a sigh of relief to hear a heartbeat and decide I’m just too nervous still.
“I don’t think I’ll ever walk out of an appointment with more excitement than nerves but so far, everything is perfect and beautiful and I’m feeling hopeful and amazing. Ok phew it’s been very hard keeping this in for so long!”
The reason for Teigen’s nervousness was because she suffered a miscarriage in late 2020 after being hospitalized for excessive bleeding.
“We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before,” Teigen said in the post at the time of their loss. “We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough.”
Teigen continued: “To our Jack – I’m so sorry that the first few moments of your life were met with so many complications, that we couldn’t give you the home you needed to survive. We will always love you.”
Legend later added: “We love you, Jack.”
In addition to their newest arrival, Legend and Teigen have two other children in six-year-old Luna Simone and four-year-old Miles Theodore.
