Joe Budden claims that Lil Wayne left out an important detail regarding the phone call he recently revealed he’d had with Kendrick Lamar.
On Tuesday (December 17), Wayne confirmed to Skip Bayless that he and K. Dot have spoken and there’s no bad blood between them following the Super Bowl drama.
When asked about Kendrick rapping about the topic on his GNX track “wacced out murals,” Tune admitted that he hadn’t actually heard the song, despite his outburst on X following the album’s release.
After Skip read out the lyrics in question, Wayne said: “That was my first time hearing it. I think he’s a fan like I’m a fan of his music. I think he meant he saw what everyone else saw, he saw how much it meant to me […] He didn’t let me down.”

Discussing the topic on a new episode of Budden’s eponymous podcast, the New Jersey native clarified the timeline of Wayne and Kendrick’s convo and revealed it happened before GNX was even released. To Budden, he feels this justifies Wayne’s reaction on social media as it could have been something Kendrick brought up on the call.
“I don’t want to break any walls here but I mean, he left a small part out of that. He did speak to him, [but it was before the song came out] and then he started tweeting. Which would make somebody say, ‘N-gga didn’t we just talk?'”

On “wacced out murals,” Kendrick Lamar rapped: “Used to bump ‘Tha Carter III,’ I held my Rollie chain proud / Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down,” referencing the rap icon’s admission that he was “hurt” by being overlooked for the Super Bowl halftime show.

Wayne didn’t appear to take kindly to the song as he fired off an angry post on X shortly after, saying: “Man wtf I do?! I just be chillin & dey still kome 4 my head. Let’s not take kindness for weakness.”
He then warned: “Let this giant sleep. I beg u all. No one really wants destruction, not even me but I shall destroy if disturbed. On me. Love.”
It was later claimed by Joe Budden that Kendrick had ignored a phone call from Wayne to address the matter, after which Weezy “went in the booth” to record a response track.
