Joe Budden has thrown shade at Lupe Fiasco over the Chicago native’s rap remix of André 3000’s flute album.
Last week, Lupe made good on his promise to remix the OutKast rapper’s debut solo album New Blue Sun, but Budden for one, is not a fan.
Speaking on his podcast, the former Slaughterhouse rapper said: “Hey Lupe, man, stop. Stop it. He rapping over them damn flutes. I cut that shit right off.”
As one of his co-hosts started playing the remix, Budden joked: “Oh Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Yo dawg, it’s women listening… with vaginas. Please.”
He continued: “Why would he do that to them? I can’t say nothing ’cause he gonna diss me […] That was some bullshit. That was some clout chasing.”

Last week, Lupe Fiasco posted a clip to X, formerly Twitter, of him rapping over the intro song from André 3000’s New Blue Sun, “I Swear, I Really Wanted to Make a ‘Rap’ Album But This Is Literally the Way the Wind Blew Me This Time.”
Some of the lyrics over the beat include: “I prefer Kintsugi pottery over pristine, perfectly-weaved sophistry/ I’m bodhisattva possibly ’cause being bothered don’t even bother me/ But not a Buddha ’cause I ain’t got the modesty/ What you miss mentally is how much I catch bodily.”
Days earlier, he had tweeted: “Gonna rap all over that 3stacks album and put it in the time capsule for future generations.”
The Food & Liquor lyricist has a history of rapping over eclectic beats. He once rapped over Radiohead’s “The National Anthem” for his mixtape Enemy of the State and also performed along with Kanye West and Pharrell over a beat that heavily sampled the band’s frontman Thom Yorke’s solo single “The Eraser.”
A couple of weeks ago, André 3000 surprised the music world by announcing his debut album with just a few day’s notice, then shocked it further by revealing the project was entirely instrumental and based around his playing of the flute.
In the press release for the album, 3 Stacks divulged why he would not be rapping on the album, which marks his first full-length release since Outkast’s Idlewild in 2006.
“There’s this misconception that I just won’t do it. I think people feel like I’m sitting around on rap albums, or sitting around and I’m just not putting them out in that way. And no it’s not like that,” he said.
“In my mind, I really would like to make a rap album. So maybe that happens one day, but I got to find a way to say what I want to say in an interesting way that’s appealing to me at this age.”
Despite the lack of a solo rap album, André 3000 has continued to contribute guest verses on tracks for the likes of Kanye West, Future, Frank Ocean, Killer Mike and A Tribe Called Quest.
Come on Lupe. Diss this mf. Finish him like Budden finishes his dog
Joe Budden has reduced himself to Azealia Banks territory. You know the kind of person with little talent but constantly throwing unnecessary shade to maintain the slightest of relevance. Shame on you Joe as you are the one clout chasing for listeners and clicks.
That’s actually a great comparison. And much like Azelia, Joe’s a 1 hit wonder too
‘Clout chasing’ seems to be a trendy term now, but isn’t EVERY rapper and celebrity clout chasing? Isn’t that the name of the game? If not, then why are you famous to begin with? Rap is confused. It has no direction. No culture. No foundation. Bunch of pretentious egomaniacal MF’s either beefin or stroking each others ego and buying each other gifts to show off on social media. I just can’t believe how wack it’s gotten.
Talentless hack A complaining about talentless hack B. Both never made more than noise with their first joints. Both will never be in anyone’s top 10. Never will there be a hip hop/rock hall of fame where they get their flowers.
Lupe’s 2nd and 3rd album actually sold more than his first, you goof.
R.pgh, the albums were mediocre at best and a distant second with quality than his first, goof.
The Cool was universally applauded with near identical scoring reviews to that of Food and Liquor. But that’s besides the point, you noted they never made more noise than the debut, which is the opposite of the facts. Clearly you know jack shit about hip hip thinking Lupe is a “talentless hack”, but feel free to send us all info on how to get to your latest album, I’m sure it’s inspiring…
Budden wrong though. Lupes bars are tight.
Joe Budden is not musically inclined. He started listening to music in 1998.
Dis muhfugga ova her playin dah lectric frute bruh! 3 staks wild mane

No one is dissing Lupe and Joe definitely didn’t say he couldn’t rap. It’s just that NO ONE is asking to hear anyone rap over Andre 3000’s Yoga music. Not Jay, Not Nas, Not J Cole…so why put this out there? People who know hip hop know Lupe’s dope he doesn’t need to offer to do these things no one is asking for just to remind fans he’s dope. That’s what Joe was saying. It’s like when Lupe offered to replace Joe in slaughter house…it’s like dude stop being thirsty.
fuck u joe budden u hater
Imagine accusing a rapper of being a “clout chaser” for rapping while sitting on your arse and listening to an album just so you can smack talk it. Joe Budden might be getting his money but he’s an utter clown criticising rappers for thriving in an industry that he couldn’t hack it in.
I totally agree it was wack I’m a huge Lupe fan I expected more but maybe Joe Budden makes him rap like Royce 5’9 almost kind of did
