Kanye West’s music and persona historically draw polarizing opinions, especially over the last few years with Ye’s antics growing increasingly more outrageous.
There was the 400 years of slavery “sounds like a choice” comment on TMZ Live in 2018 and, more recently, his album rollout debacle. But despite the bumpy road to Donda, the 27-track project arrived unexpectedly arrived on Sunday (August 29). Par for the course, feedback on the album is mixed, but Joe Budden apparently loves it.
During a recent episode of The Joe Budden Podcast, the dogmatic host was asked what he thought of Donda and he didn’t hesitate.
“I love it,” Budden said. “So genius. It’s brilliant.” When asked to give a numerical ranking from one to 10, Budden flatly replied, “8.5. “It’s 8.5. It’s [a masterpiece].”
Budden’s commentary is in stark contrast to what The Breakfast Club co-hosts Charlamagne Tha God and DJ Envy had to say about Donda. During Monday’s (August 30) “Rumor Report” with fellow co-host Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha God admitted his reaction to the project was lukewarm.
“I listened to it yesterday,” he said. “I don’t know if it’s lackluster or too long, maybe both. Upon first listen, for me, it was kind of lackluster and long. An hour and 48 minutes is nuts. Even without all the part twos on there, it’s just still too long and it gets exhausting. And the music, to me, sounds kind of dated.”

Meanwhile, DJ Envy added, “He is a clown and a circus. He is a clown and circus, and I’m ashamed of the people around him — Bu [Thiam], Free, Pusha, Monopoly … he is a clown. And if you don’t get your guy together — like Charlamagne said seven years ago, when he came up here and said, ‘The people around you don’t love you.’ And Kanye, the people around you don’t love you. You are a clown.”

Joe Budden is a contrarian who tries to be different just to be annoying. If people were saying this album was genius he would be saying it’s trash and Kanye needs help. I don’t take anything this idiot says seriously, he just wants attention.
Ye needs serious help. He’s got too many people around letting him call himself a genius that he can’t even hear good music anymore. Or know the difference. And as much as I dislike the Kartrashians and can and will blame them for a lot, his decline into craziness is actually not Kim’s fault. She probably kept him together longer than he would have been had he never married her. Cause he was headed this way even back then…sorry not sorry. Take your meds and get some help Ye. For real.

Masterpiece is a strong word, if it had been edited down it would be a masterpiece. That said, it’s got amazing songs, amazing moments, just needed some editing down. I give it 7.5 or 8 out of 10.

The album isn’t trash, there’s definitely some dope material on there. However, there is some filler. If he’d trimmed it down it could’ve been a quality album.
