Jimmy Iovine says that he does not support music being available at no cost.
“Free is a real issue,” Iovine said during the Vanity Fair New Establishment Summit in San Francisco today (October 7), per The Verge. “This whole thing about freemium, maybe at one time we needed it. But now it’s a shell game.
“These companies are building an audience on the back of the artist,” he added.
Spotify is a music streaming service that offers a free streaming option. It also has a paid subscription offer.
In May 2014, it was reported that Iovine and Dr. Dre would have high-ranking posts at Apple following the company’s acquisition of the pair’s Beats Electronics company for $3 billion. Apple Music is Apple’s streaming service.

Ok, music nowadays sucks so much I wouldnt pay for it! All these new Pop songs and “hits” sound to me like the techno days, same ol rehashed BS. I wouldnt pay 5 cents for it. Especially mp3 quality, its by far the worse audio quality ever.
I agree except for one part mp3 Quality…I think its more like tha amateurs that mix and upload trash to itunes make it seem shitty because anyone can do it.. Dont get me wrong, i luv the complexity of analog noise too but mp3 is far superior in every aspect when it comes to a side by side Comparison. And when its done right the beauty of HiFi is apparent
Androi, nowhere in tge world is mp3 ever better than analog “vinyl”. Ask any audiophile, mp3 is the worst. I always get CD quality or burn my files in FLAC file format where each song is like 30-50 megabytes. itunes is killing the quality. Hell…. even FM Stereo sounds better than mp3
androi check out a hip hop webiste dedicated just to lossless audio, hiphoplossless
You know I do have considerable respect for what Jimmy has done as a producer and business man but him saying ‘These companies are building an audience on the back of the artist’ is kind of hypocritical as that is exactly what he did with his company Interscope. So many artists/producers/engineers etc never got paid what they were owed on Jimmy’s watch. Obviously I don’t have access to financial records etc but the myriad of stories of not being paid or credited that you hear in interviews from artists who were signed under the Interscope umbrella can’t all be untrue.
It’s not to many artist that people spend money on. Only about 20 artists can really love solid units. Technology took over. Face it Jimmy. The machine doesn’t work anymore. You can’t sign artist and take their publishing. Artist rather give the music away for free and do shows.

“following the company’s acquisition of the pair’s Beats Electronics…”
So Dre and Iovine own Beats just the pair of them? Please! Go do your research like a REAL journalist would do.
