Jim Jones Says Baauer’s “Harlem Shake” Was Originally His Record

Baauer scored a breakout hit with the viral “Harlem Shake,” which has crowned the charts for the past few weeks. While the record is a certified hit, Jim Jones says that the track originally belonged to him.

During an interview with Jenny Boom Boom, the Capo said that he recorded a song over the “Harlem Shake” beat for Pauly D‘s album but that they never ended up using the track. After keeping the song in the vaults for a year, he heard Baauer’s version and subsequently decided to release his rendition of the cut.

“Actually, that record was mine for a year, I had that record a year ago and I never was… It was supposed to be for Pauly D’s album and we never did nothing with it,” he said. “When I started to hear the ‘Harlem Shake’ and heard the beat, I was like damn, I had the record for a year. So I just put the record out. I been had that record before anybody even thought about that record. It was a record for Pauly D’s album from ‘Jersey Shore.'”

The Dipset member isn’t the only one to lay a verse over the instrumental. Fellow Harlemite Azealia Banks released her version of the track that Baauer tried to block. She later released an email from Baauer who praised her rendition that was recorded in December.

    1. LOl this dude ain’t had shit since that ballin song. One hit blunder with nothing to his name. Getting shit on everyday of the month, shouldn’t have gone against that boy HOV.

      1. you may not have heard of Dipset….yeah they were huge, hes no one hit wonder – but he is a hit only because of Camron

    2. HAHAHAHAHAHA! It’s obvious he wasn’t feeling it if he did indeed have it, but now that it’s garnered fame, he’s going to release his so called version? Nuh please…What cracks me up is how the likes of Juelz and company are talking about how Harlem isn’t being represented musically by the likes of ASAP etc but yet Capo rocks the worst beats/songs and to prove a fact, wants in on this joint? Dipset is dead.

    3. So this is what happened, i recorded the song and thought is was okay, not a banger.

This dude Baauer took the song i slept on and it is getting some buzz and rotation.

So I have to let the public know that it was originally my song.
