In a 2019 interview with HipHopDX, Jeezy revealed he dropped $1.8 million on the cover art for Thug Motivation 101. According to the CTE boss, he had no idea how photoshoots went and brought his own money to fill in the boxes that fans see on the cover.

“It was about $1.8M … $1.85M,” he said. “When I got to the shoot they wanted to put paper in the boxes. I didn’t know any better so I called one of my homies and told him to look in the bags in the back and bring them to the shoot. I had them put the money in the boxes.

“At the time, this was my first album, I thought that’s how the game went. I thought everything had to be real. For me, it was just another day at the office but for them it was like, ‘OK.’ It was my shot to get on. The more authentic I was, I thought that would push me closer to getting on.”

During an interview on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast last month, Akon admitted he regretted giving Jeezy “Soul Survivor” as he felt the record could’ve been a hit for him. The song peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and would go on to become one of The Snowman’s biggest hits.

“One record that I gave away that I felt. ‘Damn. I shoulda kept’ was ‘Soul Survivor,'” he said. “I gave it and I said, ‘Man, I shoulda kept this record, God!'”

Akon previously spoke about his Jeezy collaboration in a 2019 interview with HipHopDX, where he elaborated further and said he found “Soul Survivor” “necessary” for Jeezy’s success.

“I had just signed Young Jeezy and I was like, ‘This record is necessary for him right now because he’s actually in a position where he can say that,” he said. “It will be not only believable, but he was going through it with the BMF [Black Mafia Family] movement and all stuff that was going on around us. It was like the perfect, perfect record.”
