During an appearance on HBO’s The Shop, JAY-Z got candid about numerous stories in his past throughout the barbershop conversation alongside the likes of LeBron James, Bad Bunny and WNBA player Nneka Ogwumike.
Hov even reflected on the impact of 2017’s 4:44 and how other rappers appreciated him releasing the brutally honest response album to Beyoncé’s Lemonade to the point it saved their own relationships.
“To be vulnerable in that space when you’ve done all this work and your ego tells you that you don’t have to, but then nobody else heals,” he said. “So many super gangsta rappers come up to me and tell me on the side, ‘Yo, you saved my relationship.’ It was needed.”
JAY-Z also spoke on his mother’s reaction to “Smile” where he revealed deeper feelings about their relationship and even touched on her sexuality.
“Even for my mom, it changed the dynamic of our relationship,” the Roc Nation CEO explained. “When she first heard that song, she got super defensive and was like, ‘Absolutely not!’ I was in L.A. and she flew out [to get on the song].”
Throughout the episode, JAY-Z also remembered DMX bringing a whole arena to tears on the Hard Knock Life Tour, penning “Still D.R.E.” for Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre and also learning how to swim for the sake of ever saving his kids.

Oh please
So what is all this handsign gestures and body language!! Them folks including Jayz & Bey are Devil Worshippers they live for the $$$ and not from the heart!!
What’s 4:44 upside and backwards?
Why are Shawn Carter and Beyoncé Knowles names on the Lolita Express flight logs to Epstein island?
Why is a temple on that island?
What happens inside a temple?
These people are sick!
So anybody that reaches major success is sick and devil worshippers? That’s the only way you can explain their elevation and your feeble existence. This type of conspiracy theory is sick especially when you don’t have not one receipt.
Your obsession with devil worshipping is stupid esp your thinking that successful black people had to do that to get to the top.You undermining the talent, intelligence and work ethic they have, you got self hate and very low self-esteem.That’s inferiority complex because you think you black you can’t make it on your own without the devil. How about thanking God for making them successful.stop this stupidity
LMAO!! oK bUddy..LOL!!!
so your mother is a lesbian? i have seen everything.
Yo shit the fuck up, your brain wave is no where near being intelligent enough to even comment. Go back to school and step up your vocab you silly son of a b****
I love Hov, but its time we be honest… 4:44 was not a really good album
Not good for who? Do any of you think Jay Z makes music for money at this stage of the game? Every song is a reflection of growth and evolution. Anyone who didn’t like that album wasn’t on his level of growth, but saying it wasn’t good is just untrue. A man or woman with a family who has made it from the streets to become uber-successful understand 4:44 well enough. Grown folks don’t buy every artist’s album to dance to, we want to hear their elevation and we live to be inspired. If you couldn’t hear it, that’s a disconnect. That’s on you.
Growth doesnt always equate to good music. They are 2 different things. You can can talk about things of importance but your flow cadence still needs to be on beat and your beat selections need to be on point.
If you didn’t like it that’s your loss,
I joined way, way to fast. Time to unenroll and be out this hideous chat room. It’s just not fun to me to be in a chat room with a bunch of people that are in their thirties forties and fifties maybe younger that have a preschool education… Have fun y’all God bless
Unenroll? Chat room? Yea you’re very confused lol
To Suprme,I guess Jay was referring to people like you on Renegade when he said “do you fools listen to music or do you just skim through it”
