JAY-Z Could Become 1st Black NFL Owner Amid $4B Denver Broncos Links

JAY-Z is among names linked to a takeover of the NFL’s Denver Broncos, according to Front Office Sports.

With the team expected to be worth $4 billion, Hov would need partners to purchase the Broncos and make history as the first Black owner of an NFL team. JAY-Z’s net worth was estimated at around $1.4 billion in March after the sale of champagne brand Armand de Brignac, having owned 50 percent of the company that was acquired for $650 million.

Another potential owner is Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, who is the world’s richest man. Bezos previously held talks for a 40 percent stake in the Washington Football Team in February and is reportedly still interested in NFL ownership.

Pat Bowlen purchased the Broncos for $78 million in 1984 and died in June 2019, with a potential sale by his daughters setting up the biggest franchise sale in U.S. sports history.

In July, Denver Broncos president and CEO Joe Ellis outlined plans to undergo a transition of ownership before the start of the 2022 NFL slate.

“Our goal is a timely, responsible and orderly determination of ownership,” Ellis said. “What that will entail for us — there’s some things that we still need to work through — but our goal is to be able to lay out, when the season is over — and [Head Coach] Vic [Fangio] has promised that will be in the middle of February — that we lay out for everybody a timeline to a transition of ownership that will take place next year prior to the start of the season. That’s important. It’s important to the organization. It’s important to the beneficiaries — Pat [Bowlen]’s children — to get it resolved and we’re moving forward on that.

He added, “The team is not for sale. There are a few options out there as to what we can do. You’re probably aware of those. We’re going to get through this season. Our goal is to focus on that, have a good year and hopefully be competitive and be around for the postseason tournament once that begins. That’s where our focus is. Until the season’s over, you’re not going to hear a whole lot about the future of ownership of the team.”

Despite his “not for sale” claims, he admitted the sale of the team is possible, as well as having Denver Broncos senior vice president of strategy, Brittany Bowlen, serving as controlling owner.

“Well, the sale of the team is always possible, obviously,” Ellis said. “That’s one [option]. If it’s going to stay in the family, Brittany is really the other option. There are certain … conditions that will go with that. They could come in various forms. There might be one or two other options within that option, if that makes sense.”

JAY-Z has previous NFL ties after Roc Nation struck a long-term partnership as official live music entertainment strategists in August 2019.

    1. Every year some rapper is going to buy a football team. Wonder who actually believes these stories. I guess the same kids who think they will end up a billionaire if they drop out of junior high school, sell crack and never actually write anything down OF COURSE. I guess when you don’t have a mom and dad at home you will fall for anything as long as it’s not “off brand”

        1. they want to act like the only way to black success is through their entertainment system – that’s nonsense. everyone else builds their own system. usa black people wag their tails for massa and massa throws crumbs. that’s what i hate. getting tossed crumbs people acting like i needs to celebrate. take an online course try to better yourself in someway. peace

          1. Your an fuckin idiot and have no knowledge of what your speakin on and stop trying to label black people by what a black person does we are all different, ignorant people everywhere and everycolor and success comes in many different ways for many different people

    2. christ why bother. jay-z and beyonce have enough money. unless he thinks he can contribute something. bernie sanders will tell you there shouldn’t be billionaires – he is as red as they are, and american. lets make poor communities safer jay-z in nyc. if they want more money to help people go right ahead but if jay-z is worth 1 billion or so the money ain’t going anywhere. and yes i give to health services and hospitals myself and i am reasonably poor.

    3. you don’t count pennies hoping to save up to buy a football team. One day you have a very successful business and someone is recruiting you to buy a team or a stake. again not seeing where income is being generated to the point where Hov is buying a team. doesn’t mean he doesn’t have cash but it’s hard to see how say Sting or Elton John isn’t worth ten times as much considering they can play shows worldwide

      1. You can play all the shows you want in front of as many fans as you want. It’s still not as profitable as being a business owner. Labels and or production companies make the money. Jay-Z has a plethora of successful businesses. Not just songs.

        1. He got money, undisputed. Fuck you buy a team money is a whole different ball game, (pun intended). You don’t think sting and Elton John don’t have successful business endeavors? They not tryna put on tho..

    4. The young daughter is supposed to be the acting owner since the other kids are train wrecks. I know there is a son who has gotten in trouble for domestic violence, and one of the daughters is batshit crazy. The Brittany daughter is like 35 or something, and they sent her to business school to eventually play owner.

      1. The team will be sold. There were 2 lawsuits by the other Bowlen sisters and his brother to stop Brittany Bowlen from being the primary owner. The lawsuits was dropped a few months ago once the family came to an agreement to sell the team.

What we’re being told in Denver is Bezos favored to own the team. But there are multiple others putting together groups to buy them. Including the Coors family, Peyton Manning, Jay-Z, and one of the founders of Google.

      1. That jay wasn’t a billionaire though, now he owns seats at the middle of the pyramid because he sold more portions of his soul
