Jay Rock Explains Rick Ross Collaboration, Dr. Dre’s Guidance

Jay Rock collaborated with Rick Ross on the J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League-produced track “Finest Hour,” of which an unfinished version leaked a few months ago. Speaking with The Sermon’s Domain, the Watts, California native explained why he decided to keep the record for his upcoming debut Follow Me Home and how the song came to be.

“Basically, I had recorded that record in Atlanta, shout out to J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League. I was at the studio, they came through, shot me some beats and we got it in,” he said. “I just wrote the record out there in Atlanta and I hollered at Rick Ross when I was in Miami with Birdman, and we was up in the studio, Cash Money Studios, and I hollered at him. Said I’ve got a record I’d like you to jump on, and he said I got you. That was the record.”

Jay was recently spotted in the studio with Terrace Martin and Dr. Dre, who doesn’t contribute production to Follow Me Home but helped provide guidance. “They came through and brought that good energy for me. Shout out to DJ Quik. He mixed ‘All My Life,’ my first single, back then. He also mixed my new single ‘Hood Gon’ Love It,’ be on the lookout for that,” he continued. “I was up in Dre’s studio mixing the record, so we had him come in and listen. That was a big thing for me. […] He was basically just in there and came through for me and brought that energy.”

Follow Me Home is slated for release on July 26th, and features guest appearances from Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, Rick Ross and will.i.am.
