J. Cole Wants To Produce Hit Albums Like Dr. Dre And Timbaland

    J. Cole has dreams of being way more than a Hip Hop superstar.

In an interview with Blurred Culture, the North Carolina artist expressed his passion for producing and his plans to create beats for other artists in the future.

“Right now, I only have time to produce for myself,” J. Cole says during the sit down with Steve Lobel. “They don’t know yet, they gon’ find out. I’m patient and I understand I had to get myself to a certain place to have the time to tap into my producing side.”

Although the Fayeteville, North Carolina artist seemed pleased that he’s been able to produce several hits for himself, the next chapter in his career involves crafting chart-topping hits for his Dreamville Records roster and other artists.

“I’m still waiting on that day to be able to absolutely embrace and Dr. Dre  a whole project or Timbaland a whole project, like he did with Aaliyah,” Cole says. “That’s really what I’m looking for.”

After producing his 2013 album, Born Sinner, Cole allowed a few other producers to lend their services on 2014 Forest Hills Drive.

    1. His new album now is Fire straight up. . .Listening to it and Im loving every track so far. Keep it up lil homie, you just got yourself a new fan. . .

    2. J Cole then should

      1. Stop making that shitty pop/R&B music and start making hiphop music.
      2. Get some actual hit albums from others. Bas didn’t even crack the top 100 LOL. And you wanna say stalley flopped LOL.

      3. Most important, stop buying your own damn albums. Hitsdailydouble is reporting 240-270k. Considering Even eminem didn’t do 150k for shady XV, these numbers are major suspect right here.

Oh and J Cole’s production sucks.

      1. 1. J Cole does make hip-hop music. He doesn’t do shitty pop/R&B like Nicki Minaj.
        2. Bas didn’t even release an album unlike Stalley.
        3. J Cole never bought his albums and if he did, he only buys 50-60 and gives them away to fans for free.
        4. Shady XV is a compilation album, not an Eminem album, so that doesn’t count towards him.
        5. There’s nothing suspect about Cole doing 270K since his last album did the same number.
        6. Cole’s production doesn’t suck. That’s DJ Mustard and Mike Will Made It.

      2. nigga get of JColes nuts how do you know he buys 50-60 of his albums to give away to fans. you’re a dick for saying that. why would he have to buy them anyway? where do you get your dickriding statistics from b.. you whack as shit son

        1. J cole makes shitty pop music with Miguel. 2.Bas did release an album. It just flopped hard. 3. Like I said, J Cole’s numbers are suspect when eminem couldn’t even do 250k. He bought his own albums. That album sucked and was a major bomb. 4. Eminem was on Shady XV a lot. It’s basically his album with friends. 5. J Cole’s production sucks.

      4. “1. 5. J Cole’s production sucks.”

        1. J Cole and Miguel don’t make shiity pop music. J Cole makes hip-hop and Miguel does R&B. 2. Bas did not release an album. 3. There’s nothing suspect about J Cole’s numbers especially when his previous albums did more than 200K 1st week, he didn’t buy his own albums, which doesn’t suck and is a major success, not a bomb (also, Eminem sold 2 million). 4. Again, Shady XV is not Eminem’s album. It’s a compilation record. 5. J Cole’s production doesn’t suck.

    3. FUCK J COLE. on some real shit tho why is this nigga in the news so much now>? cuz he dropped a random ass soft az baby shit album?? FUCK THIS NIGGA FUCK HIS OPINIONS FUCK HIS BARS

    4. J. Cole had a beat he played that he said was for Jay-Z that had Brooklyn in the hook…Shit was straight fire!! If that’s any indication of what he is sitting on then dude will make his mark on the production side real soon!

    5. Nicca PLEAZE!!!! You haven’t come up with ONE classic track yet, more less ‘produced a classic album’ – the level of the Billionaire DR. DRE or TIMBALAND, the man who has sold MORE from his artist Justin Timberlake than ANY other artist – who ‘J.Fold’ made racist comments about! Saying caucasians can’t like or be influenced by Hip Hop, is like sayin’ blacks can’t like or play BASKETBALL because caucasians invented it!

    6. Meek Mill shits on this wannabe nigga. While MMG keeps it cool and allows others to purchase their albums, J Cole resorts to buying 200k copies so that way, in addition to the measly 50-70k fans buy, his album sales would look good.

      1. Pleae. If anyone’s the wannabe nigga, it’s Meek Mill’s screaming ass, not J Cole, who shits on Weak Mills on everything. Cole never bought any copies of his albums, all of his fans bought all the copies. Meek and MMG don’t keep it cool and they don’t allow others to buy albums. Why is it that only artists you like don’t buy their albums and artists you like do? Sounds like complete bias.

    7. Let’s put his album sales and compare it to ross’s. Ross is known for heavy promotion, heavy ad use, singles with gimmicks of not only features but fantasies and he couldn’t sell than 218k. Keep in mind that was back in 2012. In 2014, his latest album with the same heavy promotion and gimmicks can’ even get him 80k opening week. J Cole in contrast didn’t promote the album that much, announced it at the last minute, didn’t put out a single, and is still on track for at least 240k. Think about that for a moment. Are gimmicks going to really help you, or does keeping it real like Cole seem like a better option. Finally, J Cole is going to go gold again. Only ross and wale (one time) will ever know what its like to feel gold. And neither will be going gold again.

    8. J.coles album fucking sucks, it’s worst then the last which was worst then the last. bring that friday night lights “farewell” “before i’m gone” j.cole – blank bored stare the entire time listening to this album.

removed my headphones and threw them down, was so pissed after listening to this, expected so much more. the BEATS SUCCKKK YO. audio valium. cringeworthy singing, laziest hooks, lamest rhymes and patterns, his doing his best eminem , shouting loud and showing us how angry he is with nothing to say. abc rhyme patterns just rhyming the end of every sentence —–cat, —–hat, ——-sat.

then his like oh fuck people arguing over who’s the king everyones the king, that doesn’t matter. then the net track his like fuck you i’m the king of this. then white people snatched the sound. does he know him and drake are half white with with white mothers who raised them…white? smh.

The Warm up and friday night lights are the only projects you need from this guy. he just seems pissed his realised his nowhere near the caliber of talent required to take the throne (nowhere even close to drake or kendricks talent and they in turn are nowhere close to the talent of the 90s cats like nas, big pun, jay, pac, eminem, raekwon, andree 3000 in their prime – not even close) so now it’s fuck the throne fuck being the best. well better to hate what you can’t have cole. this guy is a hypocrite he seems more interested in being the best then making the best records or best rhymes – his trying to be personal like kendricks good kid mad city but he was a better rapper when he told other peoples stories and connected himself to them. friday night lights is what this album is trying to be but check out friday night lights check out – farewell and you you’ll find that there isn’t one song on this new album that captures him reminiscing as well, as interesting, on as dope a beat with as dope a flow. farewell, before i’m gone, 2 face, the autograph, head buss, rise above, see world, all these songs from his mix tapes shit all over anything on this album. the worst song on friday night lights would be the best song on this album. get this guy off the stage his not even a contender anymore. memphis bleak 2.0.

      do better.

and people will praise his mediocrity like Ellsworth Thoohey in the Fountianhead. Knedrick/ Drake = Howard Roark J.Cole – Peter Keating 0 hot gargabe soup sacks

    9. WHY EP’s all of a sudden..release it as a full LP Ludacris..not an EP…you will flop ..believe me…just add all the other singles from the last 2 yrs and u will go 100k…i am telling you man…not this EP shit…..if your label says release an EP .They not fully behind you trust me on this…it menas they wanna gauge you and see how much money they can make off you in the event they decide to release your album…..fuckin hate major labels & 1 hit wonder guys FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK THOSE NIGGAS
