Raleigh, NC

J. Cole concluded his fifth and final Dreamville Festival with a little help from Erykah Badu on Sunday night (April 6).

For the first time ever, the duo performed “Too Deep for the Intro” together, Cole’s deep cut from his 2010 mixtape Friday Night Lights.

The song famously sampled Badu’s 2000 hit “Didn’t Cha Know?” and they both appeared to have a lot of fun bringing the track to life, capping off the performance with a hug.

As it was the last Dreamville Festival in its current iteration, Cole performed a number of other deep cuts from his catalog, as well as his latest single “cLOUDs” for the first time.

Fans in attendance were also treated to live renditions of rarities such as “Grown Simba,” “Looking For Trouble” and “Rags to Riches (At the Beep).”

During his headline set, Cole also addressed the future of the festival, confirming that it will continue under a different brand.

“We said this is the last Dreamville Festival, correct? That’s what we said,” he told the crowd. “I’ma keep it a hundred with y’all, that shit be a lot. It be a lot because we wanna put on some amazing shit for y’all, we wanna put on for Carolina, we love being able to offer that and bring amazing artists [here]. But that shit be a lot.”

He added: “I’ma just let y’all know our plan: we’re still gonna bring you some shit — this festival will still exist. It might not have the Dreamville Festival name on it, but we will be back in this field […] Before we go, I wanna thank you for making Dreamville Festival a massive success every fucking year. I’m sad, but we will be back, just in a newer form.”

It was revealed last week by Dreamville and Roc Nation promoter Sascha Stone Guttfreund that the festival would not be disappearing completely, but instead returning under a different name.

“We’re going to be here for years to come. This is a multi-year deal, and we’re so excited to be working with the city of Raleigh together on something new and exciting, and to continue to build on this incredible thing that we’ve done over the years,” he said at a press conference.
