Insecure star Issa Rae has teamed up with HBO Max to produce a comedy series based on the Miami Hip Hop scene called Rap Shit as reported by Deadline.

The series was announced as part of a new slew of female-produced comedies for the subscription-based service. In a press release from HBO Max, the synopsis stated, “Rap Shit (working title) from Issa Rae (Insecure, A Black Lady Sketch Show) is a half-hour comedy series that follows a female rap group from outside of Miami trying to make it in the music industry.”

The pilot will be written by Rae whereas her Issa Rae Production imprint has been tapped to executive produce the series alongside producing partner Montrel McKay. 3 Arts Entertainment’s Jonathan Berry and Dave Becky have been tapped to produce the series, which has a May 2020 premiere date.

The series has become the latest in a string of projects Rae has produced with HBO. The hit series Insecure finished a successful third season with season four pick up while the sketch series A Black Lady Sketch Show has been picked up for a second season.

Rae has been tapped to produce and star in a remake of Set It Off through her production company.

    1. Wanna be a rich black immigrant come to America and make stuff about blacks who are here and love you some zaddy

    2. Sorry but if I were to buy into HBO MAX I’d rather see what’s up with those new Looney Tunes shorts or even that Close Enough series after what felt like an eternity of waiting instead of giving a minute of my time to what looks like an extremely cookie cutter plot… I’m not much a fan of Boondocks but I’m almost positive the reboot will run laps around this fake woke project but can’t hate on Rae hustle tho
