As Wu-Tang Clan prepares to drop their Of Mics & Men EP on Friday (May 17), Inspectah Deck has announced he has a new solo project on the way as well.
According to a press release, the album is expected to arrive before 2019 is up and will feature songs containing samples from Tracklib, the world’s first and only music service offering legal and affordable samples at scale.
Although Deck hasn’t released a solo effort since 2010’s Manifesto, he’s pumped out multiple projects with Czarface, including 2017’s First Weapon Drawn, 2018’s Czarface Meets MetalFace and this year’s Czarface Meets Ghostface.
He’s also been touring tirelessly with his Wu-Tang brethren. In fact, he’s currently on the Gods Of Rap Tour alongside Public Enemy, De La Soul and DJ Premier.
As part of Deck’s solo album announcement, the 48-year-old Hip Hop luminary has launched a contest to find another producer who can contribute to the project. He detailed the conditions in a YouTube video earlier this month.
Producers are invited to make a beat using any samples on Tracklib.com, and the winning beat will be selected by Deck himself. Subsequently, the chosen producer will receive an all-expense paid trip to New York City to complete the track in studio with Deck along with full writing credit and compensation.
To submit a beat, head here, choose a sample, create a beat and email it to deck@tracklib.com. The contest ends on May 31.
Deck may have missed out on the initial wave of Wu-Tang releases, but the cream always rises to the top. He has probably done the most to keep Wu relevant in the 2010s. I hope he drops an absolute gem on us. It’s clear in Mics and Men that the Wu have always respected his pen and so it’s time for him to shine
No, Raekwon has done the most to keep Wu relevant in the 2010s.
No, OB4CL2 was released in 2009. GFK has released albums with BadBadNotGood and Apollo Brown… That’s relevance.
Raekwon put out like 3 albums since cuban Linx 2. And Raekwon is still NICE. Ghost’s rhymes are wack now. He’s not even trying. “Now my life is played out like some old damn socks”. It’s just that Ghost has a fan base that will drool over ANYTHING he does, so he keeps putting out these halfassed money-grab albums. Rae puts out actual quality. Peace.
Rae has put out two releases in the 2010s and the FIlA one was trash. His features are always on so I see you there. He is the first to publicly air out Wu-Tang drama and that has gotten old…if he wants to make a difference he should be doing it in the studio.
Shaolin vs Wu Tang, FILA, and The Wild. That’s 3.
Ghost has been the most consistent.
7l should produce the new album by ins.
In my opinion Deck is the best lyricist in the Clan…He’s not looked at as much as some of the other more well known members because he’s low key with it
I feel ya, Along with Gza and Masta Killa!….I’ve always thought those 3 were the most polish and purest MC’s of the group!!!
I mean, we know Rza isn’t gonna make any beats for him. He’s mysteriously been out of beats since he lost his “co-producers”.
Damn. I heard the new RZA & Ghostface track and wondered how the beat was made by the same person who created that grimy WU sound. It could be that RZA is shit without samples, or as you’re saying, without co-producers.
I hear Rza’s beats now, and then hear his beats from 20 years ago, and there’s NO WAY it’s the same producer. Honestly man, he sounds like he doesn’t really know how to use an MPC, and he’s just playing random keys on the keyboard. He’s faking it. Somebody else was making those old Wu beats. He doesn’t even show flashes of that old style anymore. And don’t tell me he “progressed” past it, because he has DEvolved exponentially. He’s trying to hide it by using live bands and state of the art equipment that he doesn’t know how to use. That’s why the clan doesn’t even ASK him for beats anymore. Think about it.
There’s CLEARLY video evidence of him making early Wu beats (watch Of Mics And Men)…if you don’t like the direction he has taken that is one thing (I’m indifferent myself) but you cannot deny the first 6 albums to which he made all but a few beats. Just because someone doesnt want to make the same beats anymore doesn’t mean he cannot take it there.
I remember him announcing a follow up to Manifesto several years ago, lol
Whatever happened to “The Rebellion” album he promised like a decade ago? It was supposed to have RZA beats and be his last album.
