Meek Mill‘s most recent album, Expensive Pain, is celebrating its one-year anniversary, and the Philly rapper has shared a few details about how much he made from it.
Released on October 1, 2021, Meek’s fifth LP was his final album for Atlantic Records and features guests spots from Lil Baby, Lil Uzi Vert, Young Thug, UK rapper Giggs and others; it was his first studio album not to feature a verse from his Maybach Music label boss Rick Ross.
Taking to Instagram on Saturday (October 1) to reflect on the album, the Dream Chasers head honcho explained how he wanted to use the release as a lesson of how not to do business in the future.
“1 year Anniversary to the last album idk how money I made off it or had no control over the overall plan and I only made 13% off it lol,” he captioned the album’s cover art. “I’ma make 10m + off every album I drop from here on out.
“I was caught up in that slave shit that’s why I been taking long …… that shit still on this album! everything I do flames! they don’t really promote music with morals in that system … now it’s my go now ima crack the code on getting paid for rapping! #Expensivepain.”
He added: “Don’t show me plaques show me checks how much each song make ? shout to roc nation And @ninachanel pressed p on this.”
Meek Mill’s comments come after he announced back in July that he was parting ways with JAY-Z’s Roc Nation Management after a decade working together.
His exit from Roc Nation made way for a new partnership with WME talent agency. Through Meek Mill’s Culture Currency initiative, the “I’ma Boss” hitmaker and WME will offer support and business expansion opportunities to his network of artists, athletes, and entertainers.

Despite the major change in representation, Meek Mill’s joint venture deal between his Dreamchasers label and Roc Nation, which was established in 2019, is still intact. Meek Mill actually clarified he would also still be invested in several other business dealings with Roc Nation and JAY-Z, such as his REFORM criminal justice alliance and more, in a tweet on July 11.
As far as new music goes, Meek Mill shared his first new track of 2022 last month in the form of “Early Mornings,” and he also teased a new collaboration with Lil Uzi Vert. He announced in September he would be releasing 10 new mixtapes starting that month, but so far nothing has materialized.
Meanwhile, Meek Mill recently announced his unique plan to celebrate the 10th anniversary of his Dreams & Nightmares album later this month.
Last month, he tweeted his desire to perform at a wedding during the month of October to commemorate the LP’s double-digit milestone.
