Bobby Shmurda crowned Joyner Lucas the Master P of the current generation and praised the Massachusetts rapper’s savvy business mind.

“The shit that I hate about the industry is they don’t talk about Joyner Lucas,” Shmurda said while a guest on The Party Starters PodCast. “Why the fuck n-ggas dont talk about him? He could sit in his house and is actually making a quarter million a month off the shit that he’s putting out that y’all supporting.”

He continued, “He an independent artist that n-ggas don’t talk about and I like that shit…I’m only gonna talk about the n-gga really cause he put a light. He like a Master P in our generation. The n-gga who’s up off of only giving out 20 percent of his music off distribution that made over 20 million dollars that nobody talks about while all these cappin rappers out here. You know what I’m saying? But n-ggas don’t talk about that mother fucker because they don’t want a bunch of Joyner Lucas.’”

Shmurda’s comparison is likely to do with Master P’s groundbreaking business mindset. In addition to the independent success of No Limit Records and their historic distribution deal with Priority Records, P is known to be one of the first independent rappers to take advantage of investment opportunities within the music industry and was one of the first rappers to expand his financial empire past rap music.

Joyner in turn has invested in various start up’s and even made an app called Tully, which offers digital tools to help artists streamline their creative process. Artists are able to record ideas, save beats, store masters and more on the secure cloud-based application.

“Artists need to have control over their work,” Lucas said to DX in 2020. “We sweat and bleed for this stuff, and it means everything to us. I built Tully to make it possible for me to have that control, know where all my stuff is and never have to rely on anyone to tell what’s mine and who owns what or how.”

As for Shmurda, he’s getting ready for the release of his long-overdue sophomore album Ready To Live, which he revealed during an interview with HotNewHipHop drops later in 2022 and will feature appearances from DaBaby, Rich the Kid, Meek Mill, Rowdy Rebel, 42 Dugg, and Key Glock among others. The “Hot N-gga” rapper will also be dropping off a new EP on August 5 called Bodboy and will feature appearances from Fat Tony and Rowdy Rebel.
