Eminem is officially among the 2022 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees. The Rock Hall made the announcement on Wednesday (May 4), revealing its 2022 class.
Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie, Pat Benatar, Duran Duran, Judas Priest, Eurythmics, Carly Simon, Henry Belafonte, Elizabeth Cotten, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Allen Grubman, Jimmy Iovine, Sugar Hill Records founder Sylvia Robinson and, of course, Slim Shady will receive the honor on November 5 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
Eminem is one of the only Hip Hop solo acts to make the cut, following JAY-Z who was inducted in 2021. The 49-year-old MC landed in the Rock Hall in his first year of eligibility and will be the 20th Detroit performer enshrined in the institution’s 36-year history.
Meanwhile, A Tribe Called Quest, MC5, Rage Against the Machine, Beck, Fela Kuti, Dionne Warwick, Kate Bush, New York Dolls and Devo didn’t earn enough votes for induction, at least not this time around.
Eminem was a strong contender for the prestigious honor from the moment the Rock Hall announced its 2022 prospects. The ballot officially closed on April 29 with a grand total of five million votes. Duran Duran, Eminem and Pat Benatar landed in Top 3 with Duran Duran collecting nearly 934,000 votes, Slim Shady with around 684,000 and Benatar with approximately 634,0000.
The Eurythmics came in fourth place with over 440,000 votes, followed by Dolly Parton in fifth place who in recent months withdrew from Rock Hall consideration only to reconsider her stance. Finishing just outside the Top 5 was 3x-nominee Judas Priest, Carly Simon and Lionel Richie.
tribe not getting in before the boy band and teeny bopper beefin mc shows u the travesty that is the hall of fame
Corny asf
To hkhjkh
Eminem is a corny, washed up cuckold!
Don’t get me wrong I like him a lot. But I think that Rage Against the Machine should have got that way before Eminem. Eminem is still going to make records. The vote was at a popularity really it’s not really going to give Eminem any respect that he hit the Hall of Fame right now because it’s really not going to matter to his fans because his fans such as myself are still waiting for more records so it’s kind of a hit or miss with the Eminem thing they should have waited until Eminem was really ready to semi-retire and then he could be more proud about it besides that I think Rage Against the Machine has shown a lot of good stuff and they don’t produce any more but again everybody’s taking a survey so you have a lot of fans just voting on it which is kind of wrong because we’re really not getting the right thing there sad but hey congratulations I like Eminem as well but I really think that his induction could have been waited until he was ready to retire it would have meant more than it does now congratulations to Pat Benatar she deserves that she’s been around forever and she stopped making records thank God LOL
In Ohio ??? Bone thugs home and they arent there ??
Hip-Hop shouldn’t be celebrating this ceremony. Wow, N.W.A and JAY-Z are so good that even an almost exclusively white institute honors them.
what about Chet Atkins, Hank Williams, Jimmy Rodgers, Johnny Cash? They’re country music. Bob Dylan also. He was doing talking blues which was Rap in the 1920s. Gospel, Country, R&B, Jazz, Blues all contributed to Rock & Roll. Rap is no different than Punk or Blues. It is why The Clash, Duran Duran, Blondie, Rod Stewart, Prince all gravitated to it. Hip Hop is no different than Country.. just as raw and outlaw ridden.
Eminem? really? It’s like celebrating Al Jolson and ignoring Skip James, Mamie Smith, Peter Tosh, Fela Kuti and many other who paved the way for White musicians and an entire industry to copy and be influenced by.
All these people acting like the Rock and Roll HoF is meant for people who “earned it”, this world is a massive popularity contest and deny it all you want Em and all those other “not supposed to be there” people yall complaining about understood the assignment. Hate jealous ass haters complaining like thier individual opinions on the matter are valid enough that its gonna change things.
And now they all can go home & say or feel that they’ve made a contribution. WE VOTED FOR A RAPPER TO BE INDUCTED INTO THE HALL OF FAME. Yes as usual y’all did it. Whatever makes you feel good about yourself. A company that didn’t acknowledge rap as a music genre for years DID IT! They gonna continue to push & push Eminem, until they eventually say HE INVENTED RAP. They just can’t blet us have nothing. I don’t even agree with Jay Z getting so early. Tribe should’ve been on his ballot. But there are far more deserving than an overrated white boy & an ugly lucky duckling. What about bThe Fat Boys whom were the first to sell gold as a group & the first rap artist working on the BIG SCREEN with a major company. Not to mention no best needed if they chose. NWA, Public Enemy, De La Soul who were the highest selling rappers across seas at one time. & there are others. Watch how The Beastie Boys make it before groups that are extremely better than they are. Like Bone, Geto Boys my Outcast, & others. Mark my word .
Eminem is a lyrical genius, a modern day Shakespeareicle Einstine.
