Hip Hop and religion are more intertwined than most people may realize. Plenty of rappers have strong faith in their respective religions, and Bobby Shmurda is one of them.

During a recent interview with GQ, the “Shmoney” rapper spoke about his faith and reveals he reads the Bible every morning. According to Bobby, his grandmother lit the fire under him to have a relationship with God.

“I gotta pray,” he said. “I gotta read [Psalms] 91 and 23 every day. Every day when I wake up, I gotta read 91 and 23. My grandma said every day when I wake up, she say, ‘Too fucking bad, go fucking read a Bible, you don’t listen.’ That’s what she said. Every day I gotta read 91 and 23 for her.”

Psalms 91 and 23 are considered psalms of protection as the reading asks for God to shield his children through difficult times. Bobby Shmurda is no stranger to hardship, as he served six years in prison on weapons and conspiracy charges.
