When Baby Keem dropped his debut studio album The Melodic Blue last September, fans couldn’t get enough of the collaborations between the young rapper and his cousin Kendrick Lamar. The pgLang duo traded bars on “Family Ties” and “Range Brothers,” showing chemistry that one can only find amongst family members.

On Sunday (April 3), Baby Keem walked the red carpet at the 2022 Grammy Awards, where he spoke with Billboard‘s Hip Hop editor Carl Lamarre about his collaborative relationship with King Kendrick.

“The way we work is just so — the chemistry is there,” he said. “I think everybody was very instrumental [in making The Melodic Blue], but the Kendrick one is the one I definitely hold close to my heart because it was the first few collaborations that we had. And to be here based on those collaborations is really special to me.”

Naturally, the conversation shifted to the prospect of a full-length album between Keem and Kendrick, which the Las Vegas-bred rap rookie is down to do, but whether the project ever materializes ultimately depends on his cousin.

“It’s up to him,” he said. “I’m down. It’s up to him, that’s all I can say.”

Baby Keem sang the same tune during his interview with Grammy.com last month, where he said the joint project could happen if everything lines up just right.

“It’s 50-50,” he said. “It could happen and it couldn’t, I don’t know. It just really depends on a lot of factors that I don’t have control over. So, it’s just what the world wants. The world wants it, then it can have it.”

“I just want to say thank you to my support system, the city of Las Vegas, my family, the women that raised me to become the man that I am today,” he said while accepting the award on home soil. “Dave Free, Kendrick … and many more. This is a dream.”
