Kid Cudi’s 2008 single “Day ‘N’ Nite” played a major role in setting off his solo career and is still influencing music culture 14 years later. Coldplay’s Chris Martin has long been a fan of the Lonely Stoner and decided to have the band release a crispy cover of “Day ‘N’ Nite” as part of their Spotify Singles session on Wednesday (February 23).

“‘Day ‘N’ Nite’ I loved when it came out, and I still love love love it,” Martin relayed in a statement. “This is the first time I think that we’ve really taken proper time to record a cover, because in my head I could hear a version of it quite different from the original, that hopefully just reinforces what a brilliant song it is. One way or another I hope that anyone listening will just think, ‘Wow, Kid Cudi is amazing.'”

The cover also briefly interpolates another Kid Cudi classic, “Soundtrack 2 My Life.” After originally being released on MySpace in 2007, “Day ‘N’ Nite” appeared on Cudi’s first mixtape, 2008’s A Kid Named Cudi, before serving as the lead single to his debut studio album Man on the Moon: The End of Day which arrived the following year.
