While people are getting ready for Super Bowl LVI weekend and the big Hip Hop extravaganza that is the Pepsi Halftime Show, others such as J. Cole are singing a different tune.
On Thursday (February 10), J. Cole took to his Instagram page to salute former NFL football player Colin Kaepernick and the kneeling protest he kicked off in 2016. Jermaine channeled former boxing champion Roy Jones Jr.’s infamous 2002 song, “Y’all Must’ve Forgot” to bring his point about Kaepernick’s bravery across to fans.
“Y’all musta forgot” in my @royjonesjrofficial voice. @kaepernick7 Imagine 5 straight years spent waking up every day to train at 5am, staying ready in hopes that some team would reach out with an opportunity, no matter how impossible that sounded most days,” J. Cole wrote in his caption. “He probably finishing up today’s workout as I type this right now. I see you bro, and I know God is with you. I pray the day soon comes when you get to play the game you love at the highest level again. I believe. And I haven’t forgot. RESPECT.”

Colin Kaepernick began sitting down during the national anthem before NFL games in protest of all the police brutality and racial injustices plaguing the country. Sitting turned to kneeling, and before long, Kaepernick became one of the most polarizing figures in America. He lost his job in the NFL as no team offered him a job following the protests, but he continues to find his way back while still fighting for his cause.
