Is Kanye West Aiming For ‘MBDTF’ Magic Recording In Hawaii?

Kanye West had what sounded like an epic meltdown during a recent court-ordered deposition with Black-owned business MyChannel, who’s suing the Hip Hop mogul for allegedly stealing the company’s technology to sell his Sunday Service merchandise.

But according to court documents obtained by AllHipHop, the Plaintiffs learned he was in Honolulu, Hawaii “recording an album” and didn’t want to be bothered by their paltry $63,000 lawsuit. After all, Kanye reportedly said they were “lucky” to be deposing the “richest Black man in America and a Black Trump supporter.”

Hawaii has been fertile ground for Kanye West’s creative genius before. In 2010, he famously worked on his magnum opus My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy among the lush Hawaiian foliage and crashing Pacific Ocean waves. He flew in several of his favorite producers and artists to work on the project, including Q-Tip, Kid Cudi, Pusha T, Mike Dean, No I.D. and RZA.

As Pusha T told Complex at the time, working with Kanye on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy was an unforgettably grandiose experience.

“Kanye West is the hardest working man in music,” he said. “If it wasn’t for deadlines, I don’t know if anything would be finished. I’ve heard things that I thought were perfect, and I come back and they’re more perfect — and they’re still not done.

“The guy’s the maestro. It’s a totally unorthodox way—well, it’s unorthodox to me, ’cause I’ve never seen anyone work in pieces like that. It was really on some Quincy Jones shit, man.”

Whether Kanye is attempting to recreate the magic he found in Hawaii over a decade ago remains to be seen.

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, selling almost 500,000 copies in its opening week and is often heralded as some of Ye’s best work. By comparison, 2019’s Jesus Is King landed atop the Billboard 200 upon its release, selling roughly half of what My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy did.

Kanye fans have been clamoring for a new project since he promised DONDA last year. In March, CyHi The Prynce told VladTV Kanye’s impending divorce from Kim Kardashian delayed the album.

“That right there, it’s a little monkey wrench in the game,” he said. “It’s all in the world now. Unfortunately, it’s sad. I don’t know if that’s gonna go all the way through, but I’m praying they figure it out. But that’s kinda like the hold-off, and you know he’s working on a lot of different things, so we’re getting back to it.”

      1. I agree! I thought some of the songs like runaway, blame game, so appalled were too long and the Chris Rock skit was corny and wack

    1. If he is as godly as a man he thinks he is he will try to work things out with his wife Kim I have to say they make the best couple I love seeing them together with there kids I know he has a lot of mental issues but that is fixable with help and I believe they could work it out

    2. I hope that yeezy kicks off the rollout with a G.O.O.D. Fridays part 2 type situation before dropping a album, that shit was next level at the time. Him, His roster, plus affiliated artists/producers all on various songs together…bring it back!

    3. i don’t listen to any kanye west there is a rarity though n.a.s.a. gifted featuring kanye west download it right now.

    4. Kanye is no Quincy Jones or music genius. He never has been and never will be. Shame on Pusha T for even mentioning Quincy Jones in the same breath as Kanye West. Kanye is solid when flipping samples to build out beats. Kanye is lackluster when it comes to creating original, non-sample production.

      1. Terrible take. He’s a musical genius. His final product is light years ahead of anything else. The entire vibe his music creates is almost spiritual. I’ve never felt music like Kanye’s. He might be sample driven but what he does with samples is extraordinary. It’s amazing. Listening to all of his albums in order recently has only emboldened my view of his legacy. There’s nothing like him. You can get technical about his production all day long but it won’t ever matter. Not a single bit. His music speaks for itself. He’s a trailblazer and will go down as one of the all-time greats. A true legendary artist of our time. MBDTF was unbelievably great. One of the best albums ever made. He does things nobody else can do. He’s on another planet. It’s ok if you don’t get it. Just know that if you did, you’re experience involving his music would be incredible. Unforgettable.

      2. how would you know you’ve never achieved anything in your life even close to what Kanye has?
