Joe Budden Cops To ‘Poor Leadership Skills’ As He Apologizes For Publicly Firing Co-Host Rory

Joe Budden is expressing some remorse following last week’s public firing of his Joe Budden Podcast co-host Rory. On the latest episode, the show’s namesake was at least aware an apology was in order for both Rory and fellow co-host Mal.

“Seeing all of this feedback and all this —I do need to apologize to Rory, as well,” he says around the 55:45-minute mark. “Maybe Rory and Mal, too, but definitely Rory … things sound a lot spicier in the go-out.”

Budden also noted he asked for the controversial clip to be edited out of the episode — the aptly titled “You Want It To Be One Way” — and had been spending time reflecting on happier moments throughout the show’s run.

“Ever since that last pod, I’ve just been having like pictures in my head of every moment that me and the guys have ever had together,” he said. “When I say I didn’t ask you to do shit for me — ‘cause I don’t ask y’all to do shit for me but that’s a man thing to me.

“You just don’t ask men too much shit but when I said I didn’t ask you to do something, it don’t mean I’m not appreciative. It don’t mean I’m not grateful. It just means I never asked.”

The former Slaughterhouse MC then essentially admitted he could’ve handled the situation better, adding, “When do you say that and not sound like a dickhead? I don’t want that to affect people I love which is why I’m going to apologize to Rory because me and Rory have so many fly n-gga moments together.

“Like, fly, friend type of vibey — like, it’s unfortunate that they might not feel that we’re so friendly today and it’s unfortunate that I can’t tell you how we got here, maybe aside from — if I’m taking accountability — poor leadership skills.”

Rory and Mal returned with a response of their own on Saturday (May 15). At one point during the roughly one-hour discussion, Mal explained he believes Budden credits his former rap career for the podcast’s popularity.

“I feel like Joe feels like a lot of the success of this podcast is based over his music career,” Mal said. “And my thing is, it’s not. I been in some of these cities when you were a rapper, Joe. … This many people weren’t showing up for you.”

Mal recalled a show at the Highline Ballroom in New York City where people had lined up around the block to get in.

“I’ve had time to replay some shit in my head,” he continued. “He said something at the Highline Ballroom show we did, when we were in the dressing room. He had went outside, he had recorded the people wrapped around the corner and he came back and he said, ‘Yo, I got these n-ggas wrapped around the block. I got the line around the corner.’

“And I looked at him and I said, ‘Joe, you don’t have the line around the corner. We have the line around the corner.’ Because you’ve done shows here before, and you’ve never had the line around the corner.”

Budden apparently saw Rory and Mal’s video and replied via Instagram, saying he still loves them. Watch it below.

    1. Nobody gives a shit about rory and mal, joe budden is the only reason people care about the podcast, if there was a rory and mal podcast there wouldn’t be any lines wrapped around the corner. I see why it didn’t work dudes dont know how to check their ego and play their role

      1. Why should they have to check their ego? That’s like saying no one cares about Quincy Jones, because people only came to see Michael Jackson. You are NOTHING without your support, despite what fans think. And furthermore, you don’t treat even the lowest person on the totem pole like they don’t matter, because that is where karma comes into play and it will hurt you more than you hurt those around you.

        1. Its nothing like quincy jones, its more along the lines of the backup singers in a group wishing they had the same credit, or the concert hype man trying to get same credit as the headliner. Its called the joe budden show for a reason cause that’s the only reason people check for the show, he got big on that side of the game since everyday struggle not because rory and mal blew him up, he’s clearly the headliner, if they would’ve checked their ego they would still be employed, notice how there is still a joe budden show proving how replaceable these guys are, sometimes karma is a thing but sometimes you gotta check people especially when they’re just digging their graves. You wouldn’t understand cause its boss shit you go thru when you’re a boss, if you’ve never been in that position you wouldn’t know those situations exist but they happen all the time.

    2. Joe did his guys grimey. In this world we only get limited opportunities to have real relationships with people. I guess he’ll have to get used to phony industry relationships now.

      1. One can argue that in order to meet the right people, one has to drop the wrong people. It was unprofessional ah, but who knows? Maybe it’ll provide better futures for both parties.

    3. This is why drakes success is so compelling. Him, Oliver and 40 never got into public disagreements over petty, minuscule conflict. The greater goal is what’s important. Imagine these divas just kept their damn mouths closed (budden included) and built the podcast up to be as great as it could be. They’d be sitting on quite the bag, as history has taught us with the Rogan podcast. Sad when something blows up that had potential to be huge, and it was all over emotions

      1. Oh please stfu. Acting like you’re acquainted. What’s Drake have to do with any part of this? Leave your damn keyboard and go back to sucking Aubreys beard on a poster.

    4. Def Jam, everyday struggle, slaughterhouse, rap career, JBP. I mean there is a common denominator here. Ian also gives off a snakey vibe

    5. Joe is bipolar as fuck. Used to love that about his music, but it makes him corny to follow in real life.

    6. Budden DID make the show because if you got 1M viewers at least 50% came to see Joe, 40% came to hate on Joe and the rest just checked out the show because they heard about it. So yes, people were lined up around the block for Joe that one time and the show’s elevation came because of Joe. Who wants to listen to Rory and Mal anyway? Anyway the show gave off single dad vegan vibes.

    7. Fact is, the show’s called JBP because he’s the axis on which it revolves. That said, Joe’s a dick anywhere he’s got a starring role. Both sides are out of pocket. Rory and Mal were nobody before Joe’s put them on. They risk the same obscurity now….

      1. Nobodies to who? Other nobodies? People in influential circles knew who Rory & Mal were. Just because you & I didn’t know means nothing. Relevance is relative. I’d rather be known to by 10 somebodies than a million nobodies.

      2. Joe wanted to name the podcast something different with sort of a group name, and Rory and Mal pushed for JBP. Mal is 100% right about Joe believing the success of the podcast stems from his music. That’s partially true, but people tune in for his hot takes.

    8. Maybe most of the fans come b/c of Joe, maybe they don’t. If they have a contract in which they are profit partners, they would need access to the accounting to know what the actual profit is.

    9. Loved Budden’s music….but he seems like an asshole. Which is probably why he makes such compelling music. He’s a troubled, toxic, addict who had a skill and usually those more “artistic” types are fucked up individuals.

      1. First unbiased truth I’ve read. Clearly he has mental health issues that need to be addressed. The women, his friends and all his detractors can’t all be wrong about your behavior. Get help bruh.

    10. Budden needs to realize that he is the problem, not everyone else. Its highly unlikely that every relationship(whether it be business or love) you’ve ever had got fucked by the other part, its you joey. You’re the problem. You’re the common denominator for fucks sake
