Atlanta, GA

Just days after Jeezy and fiancée Jeannie Mai reportedly applied for a marriage licence at Fulton County Court in Atlanta, the couple is officially married. According to an extensive profile in Vogue magazine, the small ceremony took place at their sprawling Atlanta estate surrounded by friends and family.

Although they initially wanted to get married in Lake Cuomo or the South of France, COVID-19 had other plans.

“We were really looking forward to having all of our friends and family there to celebrate,” Mai told Vogue. “But we had to change all of our wedding plans due to COVID. After Jeezy’s mother unexpectedly passed, we quickly learned that life is too short. And at the end of the day, Jeezy and I really just wanted to become husband and wife. So we decided to turn our original wedding into a mini-mony, where we exchanged our vows in front of our immediate family and a few close friends.”

“We decided to turn our original wedding into a mini-mony, where we exchanged our vows in front of our immediate family and a few close friends,” Mai explained. “Once everyone was tested and confirmed negative, our guests were shuttled to the surprise location — our home.”

Following a twist on a traditional Vietnamese tea ceremony, the couple exchanged their vows and Jeezy surprised his new bride by having Tyrese sing “Sweet Lady” for their first dance.

The couple first met on the set of The Real and made their first public appearance in August 2019 at a gala for his Street Dreamz non-profit. Find more photos of the wedding here.

“Jeannie and Jay were set for a trip to Vietnam this April,” Mai’s rep said at the time. “What Jeannie didn’t know is that Jay was planning to propose. Instead, Jay decided to bring Vietnam to Jeannie with a surprise quarantine date night in his home filled with Vietnamese food and decor.”

“We both went through enough in our life to connect on the understanding that love should feel safe, honest and pure,” Mai told PEOPLE in November 2019. “Immediately that was a magnetic attraction. Jeezy’s Baby Mama Reportedly Wanted Him Jailed For Not Buying Her A New Car

Jeezy has a daughter with ex Mahlet “Mahi” Gebremedhin and they’ve battled over child support for years. In May 2020, Gebremedhin wanted the veteran rapper jailed for criminal contempt, alleging he wasn’t adhering to the custody agreement they’d finalized two months prior. But Jeezy claimed Gebremedhin was acting “manic” and harassing him, calling her attempts to have him jailed “a vindictive and malevolent response” birthed out of bitterness and jealousy over his engagement.
